Kabakoo is a pan-African network of creative schools offering sustainability-focused training for digital manufacturing. Selected by the World Economic Forum as a "School of the Future". Our curriculum merges high-tech and low-tech (local forms of knowledge) and is designed for students to acquire and develop advanced leapfrogging skills. Our problem-based pedagogy and our focus on local relevance ensure real-world success for our students. Either as employee or entrepreneur.

Kabakoo is a changemaker in the learning space. In less than two years of operations, in addition to being selected by the UNESCO as partner for its "Imagining Africa's Future" Program, Kabakoo has been selected by the World Economic Forum as global pioneer for the future of education thanks to our impactful and scalable model. Furthermore, Kabakoo has been featured in the African Union's list of the most innovative educational projects of the continent. Moreover, thanks to our engagement in environmental education, Kabakoo has been selected as Non-State Actor in the global Coalition on Climate and Clean Air.

Join Kabakoo now by sharing your experience and knowledge as Coach or Mentor!

COACHES:
Participate in our knowledge sharing experience by remotely accompanying a group of learners. You can, for instance, have monthly or weekly online sessions with a project group at Kabakoo. If you want to know more about the challenges and maybe the joys of online knowledge exchange through Kabakoo, you can contact Ryan Hoover (rhoover@mica.edu), faculty at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, USA. Ryan has taught 3D-printing skills to the Kabakoo community through online workshops.

MENTORS:
A Kabakoo mentor dedicates one hour of her/his time every fortnight for a skype-type discussion on specific problems faced by the learners. For any first-hand impressions of the mission, please feel free to contact Ebenge Usip (ebenge.usip@etu.upmc.fr), a Paris-based computer programmer who acts as a mentor on programming issues.

Rainier Athletes' (RA) mission is to affirm our youth’s sense of purpose and belonging by intentionally connecting their core community of teachers, coaches, families, and mentors.

Rainier Athletes is a long-term mentoring organization that begins walking alongside students and their families in 4th grade and continues through high school graduation and beyond. Each student is matched with a dedicated mentor who meets with them weekly, fully sponsored to participate in year round sports and activities, and supported as they explore and advocate for their unique identity.

No experience with sports, mentoring, or working with youth is required. Trainings are held throughout the year and you’ll have support from our dedicated team whenever you need it.

RA students are not just athletes, but are also artists, activists, engineers, and up-and-coming philosophers. Their passions are a way that we engage in a deeper conversation with them and their supporters. So no, you don’t have to love sports! RA mentors are volunteers with diverse backgrounds, skill sets, and interests.

Volunteer mentors meet with their mentee once a week at the mentee’s school. After check-ins, mentors share a report with their mentee’s family, teachers, and coaches. RA mentors are bridge builders, strengthening relationships beyond their one-on-one connection to the student by uniting the student’s entire Core Community of supporters. We call this approach ONE Team Mentoring!

Mentors typically spend 1 hour per week between meeting with the student, and communicating with their parents, teachers, etc. We ask mentors to commit for at least one full school year.
Check-ins are typically held on Thursdays or Friday afternoons. The level of involvement outside of weekly check-ins is up to you. Mentors rave about the extra time they spend attending activities like sports games and milestones like birthday parties, graduations, and quinceañeras.
