Thank you for expressing interest in mentoring one of our students! We are currently accepting mentor applications to be considered for a match in September 2019. For our current mentor cycle, we are matching twice a year at the beginning of each semester. Below is an outline of the commitment and application process. Feel free to reach out with any questions! The following are the details outlining the mentor commitment:
- To have fun with a Denver Kids student and to leave a lasting impact on them
- A minimum of one year being matched with your student
- A minimum of two in-person visits each month with your student using phone, email, or mail communications as appropriate in between
- A minimum of one communication each month with your assigned student’s Denver Kids Educational Counselor
Because we work with youth, we have a very thorough screening process that all volunteers/mentors are required to complete in order to be involved with the program:
1) Complete and submit a mentor application
https://denverkids.civicore.com/mentorLogin/index.php?section=application&action=new
2) Attend an in-person interview with myself
*I will contact you to schedule this interview once I receive your application
3) Provide 3 references on your application for me to contact
4) Authorize us to run background screening through Verified Volunteers- criminal search as well as sex offender search and DMV
5) Attend New Mentor Orientation - offered monthly
6) Attend the Mentor/Student Launch Party in September
