PSE is looking for volunteers to be English teaching assistants to help deliver both a General English Programme and an English for Specific Programme in the Technology school. Volunteers will also provide extra-curricular support – helping students read and leading group discussions & talks. The assistants will support the PSE English teaching staff during the school year (October to July). To qualify you need to be fluent in English (it is not necessary for English to be your mother tongue), be over 18 and have a strong interest in teaching - especially underprivileged and vulnerable children. Previous teaching experience and a pedagogy certificate would be a plus.
If you are interested, please email uk@pse.ngo for further information.

The Foldscope is a paper-based microscope that costs less than a dollar to produce. Originally, the team that invented it were funded to mass produce and distribute this tiny microscope, but they are now moving to a commercial model to sustain this program. This doesn't make the foldscope expensive to a Western population but it is still out of reach for thousands of others the world over. While it cannot replace a traditional microscope in terms of quality, it can awaken students to the magic of looking at the world around them through a super zoom lens. This is why it is really the most powerful tool for those interested in science outreach across the globe. We want to start a fundraising campaign to purchase Foldscopes and have them distributed to schools or classrooms that apply for them. We will do so through a network of Science Messengers, who are people who happen to be traveling to a site of interest that needs microscopes. We hope t offer incentives for the best science experiments, projects, and images taken (you can attach a cell phone to the microscope and take pictures that way!). What we need from a volunteer is some design art to accompany the project, as a logo, on t-shirts, and on our website. We would like one general image and another to support people becoming science messengers. We are open to any creative idea. Interesting supporting material can be found here: http://www.foldscope.com/press/Available Shifts

STEMed Labs relies upon industry volunteers to help support our efforts. Our program and student development philosophy is based upon the idea that the best method to learn and internalize advanced STEM concepts is through application, and the most motivating applications are those that align with solving problems that authentically resonate with students on an individual basis. The corresponding individualized learning journey requires commitment and perseverance from students along with mentoring and coaching from mentors (You) and program facilitators (Us). Bringing these stakeholders together enables participants to achieve outcomes not possible in typical, traditional school environments by enabling practitioners creating change today to activate the innovators of tomorrow. We are actively seeking STEM industry mentors for our 2017-2018 academic year.
