These sessions, hosted every three weeks by ELBA, are opportunities for students from across London to hear from and learn from employees, about a specific soft skill. These spotlight sessions have been designed so that any student, whether they be in their early years of secondary school or in their final year of university, can dial in and learn. Each session will have 3-5 volunteers from different organisations. Each session will be run and overseen by ELBA, with each volunteer then sharing their 2 top tips about a topic - this one is on Staying Motivated. After all volunteers have shared their tips, students will be able to ask questions via the chat and then ELBA will wrap the session up. Volunteers will be asked to share their top tips in advance of the session, just to avoid mass duplication and also so we can send these to the students after, if they wish. These top tips can be whatever helps YOU with staying motivated, especially over the past year. How do you ensure you get all your work done, and find the fun / passion / energy in the day to keep you going? How have you made the past year workable for you, managing workloads when there hasn't often been a marker between work life and home life? Also, considering that staying motivated during COVID will likely be an interview question for many roles moving forward, how do we recognise and reflect on how motivated we have all been? Please bring your own ideas and tools that genuinely help you, and we should get some really rich and varied tips and tricks that the students can take and trial, as they continue their learning and look ahead to joining the world of work.

This is a celebration event for students that qualified for the Championship Camp portion of the Youth About Business Summer Business Camp.

We are hosting this segment to allow students to celebrate their accomplishments to date, network with program volunteers (you all!), and interact with each other before heading into the final portion of their competition.

During the event, we will host a breakout session where volunteers can discuss with students:
- Educational Background and Interests
- Career Trajectory and Work History
- Current Profession and Day-to-Day Duties
- Relevant skills that have helped along the way
- Advice for your "high school self"

There will also be a keynote segment with a senior leader at Moody's.

Youth About Business teaches business to high school students through hosting a series of team-based Mergers and Acquisitions simulations. Over the course of a week, students will work in teams of 4-5 and assume the roles of the Executive Management of a public company to perform a M&A transaction.

The camp is an intense competition. Many students have very limited exposure to the business world, but gain a great understanding through engaging with a series of speakers, volunteers, and advisors during their camp week.

To win the competition, students must submit a written shareholder report that outlines the details of their transactions.

Reading of Shareholder Reports (Self-Paced)

Volunteers are tasked with reading and scoring shareholder reports submitted from student teams. Each student team is tasked with summarizing their proposed M&A transactions as a report to their shareholders. Volunteers are asked to read a set of reports and assign each report a score based on a grading rubric.

Students will qualify for next rounds and awards based on the quality and scoring of their reports.

Presentation Judging Session (2 Hours)

Volunteers will judge a series of student presentations to select the best presentation of the camp. Combined teams (Targets and Acquirers) of 8-10 students will present the outcome of their M&A transaction to highlight why the combined company will be successful in the future. They will also answer any questions that the judges may have.

A scoring rubric will be given to each judge ahead of the virtual presentations. Each judge will be tasked with asking questions of the presenting teams and providing any feedback thereafter.

Over the course of a week, students will work in teams of 4-5 and assume the roles of the Executive Management of a public company to perform a M&A transaction.

The camp is an intense competition. Many students have very limited exposure to the business world, so students appreciate the team advisors for helping them understand these very complex cases. Each team advisor will cover a specific part of the transaction process to help demystify business and prepare students for their transactions.

The camp is both an educational opportunity and a competition for the students. Advisors act as both “paid” consultant and teachers during their experience. You should approach your role as advisor as if you are advising a client on the pros and cons of a deal.

Information Technology Session (45 Minutes):
The IT volunteer helps a team of 4-5 students consider the implications of technology issues (staffing, systems integration, cost efficiencies, upgrades, etc.) in the merger and acquisition process. The advisor will spend the session helping teams think through the value of their IT and data.

Key concepts covered during this session:
• Company’s perceived role of technology (early adopter vs late entry)
• Reliance on IT for a competitive advantage
• Valuation of intellectual property assets
• Technical resources key to the ongoing operations
• Deal reliance on significant expense reductions based on IT synergies
• Deal reliance on merged or compatible infrastructure
