SciChats is a video-conferenced-based science outreach program that pairs students in a classroom (or an alternative learning setting) with a volunteer scientist for an interactive conversation about what it’s like to be a scientist. SciChats gives students a clearer picture of how science progresses, encourages them to imagine a future for themselves as scientists, and illustrates the contributions that science makes to our society.

SciChats’ mission is to function as an interactive learning experience for students and a communication exercise for scientists. Rather than strictly teaching content, SciChats embraces students’ curiosity by letting their questions dictate the discussion, and emphasizes both the process of science and the people behind it.

Interested in becoming part of the SciChat scientist network? Please email education@salk.edu with any questions or to sign up.

G.R.E.A.T. (Gwinnett Reading Exchange & Art Transforms) Little Minds is a public art and awareness campaign designed to inspire the love of reading, provide access to early learning children’s books in areas where books are scarce, and encourage an appreciation for public art in Gwinnett County.

This unique opportunity is for Gwinnett County Citizens. We need stewards to adopt our book exchanges. The primary role of a G.R.E.A.T. Little Minds Steward is to care for the book exchange so that it becomes and continues a long life as a vital, engaging resource for the neighborhood or community. Stewards are the key local contacts for each book exchange. We encourage each Steward to keep the book exchange full at all times. This is done by welcoming participation, creating and maintaining a friendly place in and around the book exchange, and encouraging early learning for all ages. Book exchanges will be placed in areas fully accessible to the public.

Stewards can source their own books or receive donations from the Gwinnett Coalition. For more information, visit our website at https://www.gwinnettcoalition.org/great-little-minds/stewardship/

Transition your industry experience into the classroom as a middle or high school teacher. As an EnCorps STEM Teaching Fellow, you will use your leadership and unique expertise to inspire the next generation by working as a teacher in a low income school. Fellows train online/on-demand and at 3 in-person cohort events each year by participating in enhanced skills preparation workshops
Fellows receive extensive support and mentoring from the EnCorps staff, their cohort, and EnCorps’ network of schools
With the help of EnCorps, you will develop your unique timeline to become a credentialed, paid teacher, in as little as 9 months, or 3 years depending on your personal goals.

Families in our district boundaries can order candy filled Easter eggs that will be delivered and hidden in their front yard the evening of Saturday, April 11. In case of inclement weather, customers agree that eggs will be delivered in a bag on their front porch. This is our first attempt of anything like this but we have tried our best to think through the entire process to make it fun, safe, and profitable. We are small parent group seeking to raise funds for private lessons and instrument upgrades for students in our orchestra.

The 7th and 8th grade Choir & Theatre Arts students are preparing a fully-staged version of the Broadway smash hit: "Hairspray the Musical". Over 100 students will be performing in the musical production which touches on many topics such as the social constructs that divide us: race, gender, socio-economics, body type and more...and it's all done with a rocking' 1960's era soundtrack that is sure to leave audiences dancing out the door.

The musical has become a school-wide project in which many students from all walks of life, background and interests come together for. We are not supported with a budget, so the show has become a true labor of love. With so many students involved, we need many hands to help make the show experience successful.

We are hoping that Kohl's can provide us with support with Ushers to hand out programs and assist patrons to their seats. Our Saturday Evening Performance begins at 7PM at our High School Auditorium. Last year, we had over 2,000 people attend our show over the weekend. Many hands make light work!

Thank you for considering us!
