At JA Finance Park presented by the USAA Foundation, each student becomes “an adult for the day” in an electronic simulation. The students are assigned a life scenario so they can experience firsthand the real-life challenges of making personal budgeting decisions. After calculating their net monthly income and savings goals, students visit kiosks that represent different budget categories such housing, health insurance, groceries, and utilities. Anyone with real world monthly budgeting experience can become a volunteer. JA Finance Park Volunteers play a key role by helping the students understand the concepts of personal financial planning and career exploration. Volunteers provide guidance and assistance while monitoring and verifying students’ work.

High School Science Day is a half-day community outreach event designed to get scholars interested in considering an exciting career in research. The day's program includes presentations from scientists who share stories of their professional experience, laboratory tours and participation in ongoing laboratory experiments with some of the Salk Institute's world-renowned researchers. This will be the 30th year that Salk scientists have come together to offer this amazing opportunity!

We need approximately 30 volunteers to act as group escorts for the various student groups as they tour the labs. You will be escorting small groups of students and teachers (5-10) to and from the labs for the tours (of course you get to stay for the tour as well!) - don't worry if you don't know where all the labs are - we'll provide maps and an orientation and there will be lots of signs! Volunteers will need to arrive at Salk for orientation at 8:00 am. The program starts at 9:00. Tours will be from 10:00a-12:00p, followed by a free lunch and then a special presentation that volunteers are welcome to attend. All volunteers will receive a free collector's edition MODHSSD t-shirt, a free MODHSSD collectible memorabilia item, lunch, your very own copy of the official group photo and the gratitude of hundreds of future scientists!
