Since 2012, the St. Matthew Baptist Church Youth Ministry has assisted young ladies in the community who need help preparing for the Prom by presenting “Ruth’s Closet”.…… “A Program Run by Girls for Girls”!! This year, it will be held on February 24, 2018 in the Fellowship Hall of St. Matthew Baptist Church.

This ministry is designed to assist young ladies with dresses, shoes, accessories and make up…all of the essentials that young ladies desire to have that ultimately ensures them with feeling beautiful during the prom at their school. This Mission project is also designed to allow those who probably would not be able to afford a dress, the perfect spot to shop for the perfect dress just for this special occasion. At the end of their experience, before they leave the church, our female Associate Ministers, speak with them about being young ladies, abstaining from alcohol and drugs, and then pray with them. All of this is done with each girl. This ministry has received the blessings of smiles on the faces of the girls, tears in the eyes of mothers (and fathers)/grandmothers/guardians and friends who understand what this opportunity means to the girls and some have even accepted Christ as their Savior. This is a ministry of the mind, body and soul.

The girls are referred by school counselors, foster care, social services, churches, and others who hear about the program and ask that their clients participate.

Dads (or other fathers figures) and daughters can spend the evening enjoying a meal and each others company at the Daddy Daughter Masquerade for St. John Fraser. This event will be located at Infinity Hall in Fraser. Volunteers will be helping serve dinner to the guests, prepare and set out items for dessert, and clean up as time is available.

Friday, April 5th from Noon to 5 p.m. is an opportunity to volunteer at the Brokers for Kids Olympiad! Kick off your Friday refereeing games or selling raffle tickets at an event where adults come together to win the Brokers Cup after spending 4 months raising over $400,000 for children's charities like Boys Hope Girls Hope!

When: Friday, April 5, 2019 Noon-5 p.m.
Where: Scottsdale Stadium, 7408 E Osborn Rd, Scottsdale, AZ 85251
What: Referee simple games like bocce ball and bags, or help sell raffle tickets
Dress: Shorts and a t-shirt is fine, referees will be given ref jersey's to wear during the event. Don't forget your sunscreen! Hat and sunglasses advised.
Parking: Free parking is available North of the stadium off Drinkwater Blvd
Lunch: Free lunch and plenty of water provided!

Opportunity Details

Custom Made is an enterprise event in which students take part in fun activities to test their problem solving, leadership, teamwork, financial literacy and decision-making skills. Students will spend the day putting together a proposal for a fashion show and creating their own product range. Throughout the event students will be using and developing their communication skills, ability to work in a team, creativity and confidence.
We are looking for volunteers to come in and share their knowledge and experience to support students through this creative enterprise programme. You do not need to have any fashion expertise and Inspire! provides all of the materials and resources.

Junior Achievement is the world’s largest organization dedicated to educating students about workforce readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy through experiential, hands-on programs. The JA Bowl-A-Thon fundraiser helps provides the funding needed for these programs. The day of the event, volunteers are needed to help distribute materials, event set up/take down, staff assistance, hand out prizes, bowler check-in, and with handing out prizes awarded during each shift.

The students are assigned a life scenario so they can experience firsthand the real-life challenges of making personal budgeting decisions. After calculating their net monthly income and savings goals, students visit kiosks that represent different budget categories such housing, health insurance, groceries, and utilities. Anyone with real world monthly budgeting experience can become a volunteer. JA Finance Park Volunteers play a key role by helping the students understand the concepts of personal financial planning and career exploration. Volunteers provide guidance and assistance while monitoring and verifying students’ work.
