San Francisco CASA is recruiting volunteer advocates who, after completing a 42-hour training, will be sworn in by the court and matched with a youth in foster care to serve as a vital advocate and mentor. Our young clients have experienced physical or sexual abuse or neglect and a CASA can help them navigate the child welfare, school and healthcare systems, and ensure they have the support they need to thrive.
The first step is to attend a virtual info session, register at www.sfcasa.org/volunteer.
The CASA Role
• Act as a consistent and supportive advocate for a child.
• Visit the child on a regular basis. ( Weekly for children placed in county; every 2-3 weeks for children placed out of county.)
• Establish a relationship to better understand the youth’s needs and desires.
• Advocate for those needs.

Join Kiwanis Club of Hanson as a way to engage in a variety of ongoing service activities which benefit individuals in need (especially children), families, organizations, and community life. Members are able to participate even with busy work and family schedules. We have a goal to increase membership so that we can become an influential and focused positive impact service and charity organization locally; however, as a club within the New England & Bermuda District of Kiwanis we are proud of the District Foundation that works with the Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Institute (KPTI) at Tufts Medical Center/Boston Floating Hospital for Children, a Stage I Pediatric Trauma Treatment and Research Center unique in the country.
Kiwanis International is in 80 countries and consistent with the defining statement: "Kiwanis is a global organization of volunteers improving the world one community, one child at a time.", has once again partnered with UNICEF. The goal is to eliminate Maternal Neonatal Tetanus, which at one time killed a baby every nine minutes and a mother every 22 minutes because of unsanitary birthing conditions in the original 59 countries targeted. Kiwanis pledged $110 million and the Eliminate project has reduced the number of countries to fewer than 20, a number which will continue to get smaller.
So, any time members (volunteers) participate to the extent they can in club activities and fundraisers, they are Making a Difference locally, in our District, nationally, and even internationally.
We sponsor student and adult Service Leadership Programs (SLP); e.g., Key Club at Whitman-Hanson RHS, Builders Club at Hanson Middle School, and Hanson Aktion Club for adults (18+) living with disabilities. New England Village, Pembroke, serves as the host agency for the Aktion Club. In December 2017 we sponsored and help charter Boy Scout Troop 68.

Our Academic Year Interns work in schools with children born into poverty, providing additional support for Dominican teachers who are themselves victims of the same poor educational system. By acting as role models for children, bringing new techniques into classrooms for teachers, and by acting as community liaisons, volunteers help provide myriad new opportunities to the children and the community.

DREAM Interns are split into two programs: Education and Program Development. Education Internships are for experienced teachers who can help us train our local staff, as well as individuals who are seriously considering teaching as a career, and this experience will help them be more effective educators in the future. Program Development Internships are for individuals who are interested in learning about non-profits. They will be attached to 1 or 2 programs within DREAM and support a number of activities from teaching directly to the students to developing systems that will improve the overall program quality.
