The MUST mentoring program has three groups; Youth, Mentors and Coaches. Youth are the most vulnerable African American male high school students. Mentors are African American college students who are paid to mentor the high school students. The final group are call Coaches. Coaches are older men of any race who volunteer to come alongside our Mentors and help them figure life, school, career and relationships. It is easier than it sounds. Coaches are just a friend to listen to the Mentor and bounce ideas off of. MUST is looking for Coaches to volunteer in Seattle to help our Mentors. An ideal Coach is a male of any race in a solid career. They could be just out of college or more advanced in their career. What matters is the ability to listen and connect with our Mentors. They will discuss the journey they took and the skills that were needed to succeed in their current role. Providing a fresh perspective will help students envision a bright future for themselves. Diverse backgrounds and experiences will make this a more enriching experience for both the volunteers and participants.

The volunteer activity will begin with a brief orientation from United Way and a nonprofit partner on Thursday, August 13 at 12:30 pm PT. During this orientation, volunteers will learn about United Way and the beneficiary, the impact that they are making, and how this particular project will support the communities that they serve. United Way will also provide guidance on the project and answer questions.

We are looking for a developer or someone with technical experience to help us design and imporve our current online platform for student learning. We are using WIX for website.

The association All Grow, like the name says aims to create systemic change through collaboration between individuals, organizations and institutions. AllGrow is dedicated to helping organizations and individuals promote inclusive growth and advancement by fostering innovation, knowledge sharing and critical thinking. Our mission is to contribute to building an inclusive society, in which ALL members have the tools, resources, and opportunities to GROW.

We have started our activities in November 2017 in Romania. So far we have been working mainly in the area of education and social entrepreneurship, with special focus on rural and underserved communities.

AllGrow’s educational initiative is called Change Architects and aims to transforms children into change makers through community development and social entrepreneurship using design thinking. 500+ innovative teachers volunteer their time to facilitate activities for their students. 5,000+ youths identify problems in their communities, brainstorm ideas and implement sustainable solutions. In doing so, they develop 21st Century skills such as: empathy, collaboration, communication, leadership and confidence in their own capacity to generate change. We have been working in all counties (41) in Romania and we have been supported by Design for Change, Autonom Foundation, Lego Foundation, Design Thinking Society, Oracle, Ashoka and Romanian Business Leaders.

#Remote volunteers will help individuals practice their interviewing skills by participating in mock interview sessions. Volunteers will work one-on-one with participants, in which they will ask typical interview questions and provide feedback and guidance on how to respond. Volunteers should also be prepared to provide guidance on cover letters and resumes, should the participant need help with these areas, as well. We are seeking a diverse group of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds to participate in this opportunity .

"#Remote volunteers will visit an online platform in which they can respond to career related questions submitted by youth of various ages and backgrounds. Based on the volunteers own background and interests, they can respond to questions providing their guidance and expertise. United Way will review responses and provide the youth serving organization's educators with a report compiling all of the questions and anwers, which will be shared with students.

The volunteer activity will begin with a brief orientation from United Way and/or a youth serving nonprofit. "#Remote volunteers will work together as a team throughout the week to create materials that can be included in a Financial Literacy Kit for adults, ages 20+ years old. Teams will suggest age appropriate books on savings for kits and complimentary worksheets that they will design and produce for United Ways to share with their non-profit partners. Volunteers need Zoom or phone capability to connect as a group.

The volunteer activity will begin with a brief orientation Wednesday, August 12 at 10am PT from United Way. During this orientation, volunteers will learn about United Way, the impact that they make in the areas of education, health and financial stability, and how this particular project will support the communities that they serve. United Way will also provide guidance on the project and answer questions.

Opportunity Details

Children battling cancer or suffering from other chronic illnesses undergo lengthy hospitalizations, and develop many gaps – educational, social, and emotional. Their entire families are affected, and are in need of support.

Each volunteer in this program is assigned to tutor a child, whom s/he visits at the family's home on a weekly basis. One may either tutor a sick child, or a healthy sibling in need of mentoring. The tutors help the children bridge academic and social gaps, according to the families' and the children's personal needs.

Volunteers are provided with group guidance meetings once a month, as well as private guidance meeting according to need.

Volunteers are required to commit for a year in the program.
