Edwin Binney's Community Garden is an educational and food security project through United Way City of Kawartha Lakes.
The garden offers curriculum-based educational workshops and resources for JK-grade 12 students either in-person or online. Teachings include biology, native plants and species, pollinators, food security, First Nations food systems, biodiversity and sustainability.
United Way CKL would like to adapt these lesson plans into the French language to further extend the reach of our programming and meet the needs of all students. This is critical education to expand food literacy to contribute to food security.

We want to connect! We would like folks to step up and support where they went to school! Let's show students about our careers and lives and maybe give back a little Time, Talent and Treasure.
So what we need from you, is marketing help with this venture. We have a website at www.hsdalumni.org. We don't have marketing materials, a plan, an app, or dedicated social media. You don't have to be an alum of HSD to push us into this program. We are looking for ideas, tech support, social media... an app? The sky is the limit. We have started it. Ok. Ok. What's next?

HSF has begun an alumni outreach to drum up support from those that attended our schools. We currently are aware of over 50 businesses owned by alums. We would like this list updated and need some help with phone calls and internet research. All from your own home!! You are NOT asking for money. Simply confirming the name of the owner, that they did graduate, do they know of other alum owned business and what heading will they be listed for FREE on our high traffic hsdalumni.org website. This will take a few hours, then we would update and go through again in stages.

Swerve Robotics is looking for people who are willing to share their knowledge of business, engineering, project management, marketing, programming, LEGO, science, logistics or other "skill" with young people who are eager to learn and discover for themselves.

Our mentors are focused on the transfer of knowledge that will empower our students to make the well informed decisions that will move their projects forward. Students always "do the work" and mentors are there as resources and support for developing new skills.

We have students in K-12 who are looking for mentors for their teams. The programs are as follows:
FIRST LEGO League Explore aka FLLE (ages 6-10)
FIRST LEGO League Challenge aka FLLC (ages 9 - 14)
FIRST Tech Challenge aka FTC (ages 13- 18)

All coaches and mentors are required to have a background check and register with our organization prior to participation. For more details, please contact Sara Jones (sara.j@swerverobotics.org

Swerve Robotics is looking for adults who enjoy working with youth to help coach our teams. The role of a coach with Swerve Robotics is to focus on the overall development of the individual students while creating a safe, supportive, inclusive environment for them to learn, make mistakes, and discover for themselves.

We need people to work with students in each of these age groups:
FIRST LEGO League Explore aka FLLE (ages 6-10)
FIRST LEGO League Challenge aka FLLC (ages 9 - 14)
FIRST Tech Challenge aka FTC (ages 13 - 18)

We have training available and generally start our coaches as mentors while they learn the programs. There are two different locations depending on which program you select. If you are interested in either of the FLL programs, please contact Sara Jones (sara.j@swerverobotics.org)

Background checks are required for this role (and any roles with direct contact with our students)
