Every day, young people are asked to make important decisions about their futures. From picking a college to choosing a career, these decisions can be daunting. Often times, these students don't have mentors they can turn to for guidance. This is where CareerVillage.org comes in!

CareerVillage.org is a tech nonprofit that crowdsources personal career guidance to students at massive scale. We do this through an open-access platform that anyone can use to ask a question related to a career. The advice students get is tailored for them, it’s reliable, encouraging and inspirational. The more students from different backgrounds use it, the more young people are exposed to careers they may never have dreamed existed.

What is Bridge to Grow?
Bridge to Grow is a nonprofit organization based in Hartford, CT. It provides a unique, impactful opportunity for mentors to volunteer their time and expertise to help youths in underserved communities. Their volunteers are usually professionals and college students with interest in tutoring in STEM subjects and mentoring youths. The mentees are usually middle school and high school students who are looking for additional help with their math and science subjects. Bridge to Grow works with the schools and the teachers to identify the students who are in need and have the potential that’s ready to be unlocked through 1-on-1 tutoring and mentoring.

What does volunteering involve?
Each mentor will be matched with a student for the entirely of the program, which usually runs 10 – 12 weeks. The program involves 1 hour per week to virtually meet with the mentee 1-on-1 in a virtual breakout room. The tutoring programs are usually scheduled during the lunch hour (12 pm – 1 pm Eastern Standard Time).
As a volunteer, you will have an opportunity to develop an understanding how you can best help your students grow academically as well as being a positive adult role model.

Opportunity Details

This has been a hard year for students, especially those experiencing homelessness and in foster care. Weekly one-to-one coaching -- like executives get -- can help with connection and with executive function skills (like perseverance, planning and prioritizing, impulse control). Edge provides volunteers with 12 hours of initial training and continuing training advice throughout the school year. Coaching sessions last 20-30 minutes and can be done in person or remotely. When students are coached they are less likely to drop out, more likely to have good attendance, less likely to be suspended or expelled and more likely to feel good about school. A little help from a trained, reliable adult goes a long way.

Pandemic Professors is a nonprofit organization that offers free tutoring and mentorship to underserved students in low-income communities. The service was created to bridge the education gap caused by e-learning and the pandemic. We are a 100% volunteer-run organization. We do not have any paid opportunities.

=Educate our staff, tutors, and families on special topics (e.g., hosting a career panel for students who want to go into tech).
=Create community and belonging for our volunteers and families (e.g., hosting holiday events for us to come together and bond virtually).
=Organize fundraisers so that we can continue supporting our current students and expand to serve more.
-Collaborate across multiple teams in the organization, including Product Managers, Service designers, UX designers, and researchers, as they conduct user research and adjust strategies as needed to establish a unified voice for our brand.
-Taking on additional open tasks when asked or interested.
-Report to the Head of Events.

Over the last 30 years, CFES Brilliant Pathways has helped 100,000 underserved students attain college degrees and become ready for the workplace.

As a Colgate Cares Day volunteer, you will be sharing your pathway to higher education and the workplace with CFES Scholars. As a role model/mentor you will be helping to raise the education aspirations and academic performance of our students by building college and career knowledge and promoting the development of Essential SkillsTM like leadership, perseverance, teamwork, networking, and other competencies.

Colgate volunteers will work with students in grades 7-12 from 9am - 2pm ET. There will be twenty plus schools, and forty 30-minute sessions. Volunteers will be in panels of two or more, talking about their college and career pathways: what your major was, how you paid for college, who helped you along the way, the link between college and your current position at Colgate, etc.

Session sizes will vary from 10 - 30 students. All sessions will be moderated by a CFES professional with time allotted for Q&A.

Volunteers will be provided with a guide that includes specific details on individual schools and communities, as well as leading questions for the panel discussions. Volunteers will also have access to a short, recorded onboarding webinar, along with a quick Zoom check-in the morning of September 30.

Job responsibilities will also include the below:

Marketing Strategy - Build innovative marketing strategies incorporating multiple channels including campaign development, brand building, and digital advertising.

Social Media Engagement - Implement a social media calendar using information with pictures, relative news and topics, and additional resources. Through these challenging activities, the adolescent experiences personal as well as social success.

The centers operates five days a week in an atmosphere of a warm home, a home that provides love, support and supervision, security and a structured framework, and maintains proper rules of conduct.
The program is a "complementary" framework aimed at developing and improving the adolescent's abilities parallel to the main frameworks in his life - family and school. The Centers focuses on deepening the family's and school's involvement and participation in the youth's success and achievements, since these connections contribute significantly to his personal strengthening.
The adolescent's success depends on the nature and frequency of the relationship between various frameworks in his life. This relationship is maintained on a regular basis by continuous communication with the parents, home visits, feedback, and cooperation with the professional and educational staff in the schools.

Target Population – Youth at Risk
The term "youth at risk" refers to a variety of youth all of whom are characterized by an element of risk, to themselves or to their environment, at present or in the future. One of the main risks faced by this population is dropping out and detachment from formal educational frameworks, resulting from social or domestic distress, difficulties in learning and perseverance, and more.
Goals and Success Benchmarks
We have set goals and objectives, which are measured by specific benchmarks for success.
Goals:
• Closing academic gaps and prevention of drop out
• Prevention of vagrancy and expansion of leisure activities
• Strengthening of personal resources and developing personal and intrapersonal skills
• Increasing social and community involvement
• Developing a generation of productive young adults who contribute to the community and to Israeli society

Benchmarks
• Improvement in academic achievement
• Prevention of drop out of formal educational systems
• Improvement of self–esteem, self-confidence and self-efficacy
• Strengthening of social skills
• Some of the graduates of the program return to the center as assistants, either through the "self-commitment" project or as volunteers, and then they join the army.

The Benchmarks are measured through feedback, questionnaires, and personal interviews with the boys, their educators and parents, at the beginning, middle and end of the school year.


Staff
The team coordinators employed by the Challenge Centers hold a bachelor's degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology etc., and work for at least 80% positions at the centers. This enables them to meet the youth throughout his daily activities, including school attendance, class performance and learning, activities in the center, and meaningful acquaintance with the family.
Activities at the Center
Participants are 5th to 11th grade boys and girls from various schools in the city of Herzliya. The centers operate four to five days a week, on Sunday-Thursday, between12.00-18.00. The boys or girls, in two separate centers of "Derech Hagalim Center" arrive at the centers directly from school, eat lunch, and start their homework/workbook preparation around 14.00. They are supervised by students and volunteers and are then divided to different activities:
• Extreme Sports.
• Marine Sports
• Studies and academic activities
• Social- and values- related activities
The girls' center was established 3 years ago under the same roof of "Derech Hagalim center" yet for girls. The needs of the girls' center _as it makes its first years, is extreme. We look for money donations and volunteers hours' to assist the girls, mainly in both subjects: English language and Mathematics.
