Become a mentor for children across the globe! This is an incredible way to give service online, especially since most of the world's schools are still closed due to COVId-19, and this is the only educational resource these kids will have.

It’s super easy to get to started (check out our website), and it’s fun to get connected and help mentor these children. Once you are paired with a child, your sessions only take 30 minutes a week, and our fun interactive training sessions will help you be successful.

Books open children’s minds to a world of possibilities and give them the tools they need to dream bigger. And you can inspire that within them through mentoring!

Consultation on system and process optimisation, implementation and migration.

As a Not-For-Profit organisation, we must achieve a level of operational efficiency which will allow us to operate as lean a manner as possible so that we are able to continue to develop engaging educational resources for teachers, students and parents while also delivering on the targeted outcomes of our funding partners. At present, the multiple systems, software and processes used to facilitate this are not allowing us to operate at peak efficiency as they are:
-many and varied*
-have overlapping functions across different areas of the organisation
-used to different degrees by different areas of the organisation
-not centralised or, where there is centralised documentation, not widely known about or understood by all to see their full potential.

To overcome this, we need to audit our existing tools to determine their effectiveness and fit for the purposes of the organisation, as well as ensuring that all members of the team are able to use them to the extent required for their role.

*Examples of the varied nature of the platforms include:
-Hubspot (CRM),
-Wrike (Project Management),
-Google Sites (Documenting process),
-Slack (internal comms),
-Email (internal and external comms),
-Google Drive (file storage),
-A unique server (file storage),
-Google Analytics (analysing website traffic),
-WordPress database (Extracting user download information),
-Marketo (communicating with our database and analysing marketing campaigns),
-Google Apps Suite (Docs, Sheets, etc)
-Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc)
-Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, etc)
-Many, many Google Chrome extensions

Goal: To reduce and streamline the number of tools used to run the Cool machine by eliminating overlap between tools in use (i.e. rather than using and analysing database information from three different platforms, consolidating into one platform that can pull from all three databases) and ensure all team members are capable and using the identified tools to their fullest potential, ensuring increased productivity and operational efficiency.

Measurements:
The number of projects the Cool Team is able to work on simultaneously and without additional staff resourcing.
The estimated and actual timelines for project completion across all areas of the business
The level of autonomy with which all members of the Cool Team are able to use the tools implemented.
The number of tools being used by the Cool Team.
A plan to transition from one tool to another is identified and implemented.

Indicators of achievement:
The number of projects the Cool Team is able to work on simultaneously increases by 50% with no additional staff resourcing required.
Actual project timelines are reduced by 25%.
Team members are able to use the tools of the organisation independently and effectively.
The number of tools used is reduced to the minimum number required for the highest operational output.
The functional overlap between tools is negligible.
Migration of workflows from one tool to another is relatively painless and quick.

Key to having a highly engaged user base on the Cool site is optimising the experience to be specific to the user’s interests. At the moment, there is no way for users to set up their preferences with regards to content (subjects, year-levels, etc). Therefore, a system whereby our users can set up their preferences and view targeted content is required, along with the comms to keep users engaged with new and related content.

Goal: Optimise the Cool UX to create a greater number of highly engaged users who return to the site regularly and see Cool as their first stop in lesson planning.
Measurements:
-Site traffic and download statistics will be used to measure an increase in user engagement.
-New methods of marketing content are developed and tested per user preferences.
-User profiles of preferences can be created per user and stored in the user database.

Indicators of achievement:
-Resource download numbers and site traffic increases beyond current levels and maintains consistently higher figures ongoing.
-Marketing campaigns show an obvious correlation between time of delivery an increase in site traffic and resource downloads.
-A user profile is created and maintained on the user database.
-The user profile is used to guide content marketing efforts and shows obvious improvements to site engagement.

Cool 2.0 is our project to build a new website with additional functionality and optimised UX, including a full rebrand and change in domain, coolaustralia.org to cool.org. We are investing heavily in this project and require assistance to ensure we transition in a way that fixes existing issues with our data and optimises data capture and use.

-Reviewing our existing database
-Assisting us with some technical specifications
-Providing some transformation advice
-Meet with our team and our vendor to ensure our developers have what they need to deliver the right solution.

Timeframe: ASAP to feed into Cool 2.0 (Cool 2.0 is our project to build a new website with additional functionality and optimised UX, including a full rebrand and change in domain, coolaustralia.org to cool.org).

As an organisation where content marketing is as equally important to our operational objectives as the production of the highest quality educational content, being able to capitalise on our database of users to better share our content with them in a meaningful, engaging way is a top priority. For our users, we should be able to communicate with them in a way that will enhance their user experience and lead them to better, more relevant content. For our funding partners, we should be able to analyse, evaluate and report on the performance of the educational content they have funded in a way that gives meaning and considered insights on the value added by our content.

At present, we have three databases providing data with which we will create segmented email campaigns and report to partners on the performance of the lessons they have funded but, due to legacy issues and the capacity of the platforms used to analyse the respective databases, the data we use is of relatively minor use to us from a communications perspective and of superficial value to our partners.
To truly achieve our operational objectives of providing our user base with the content they want to see and in a format, they are going to pay attention to, and to report to our partners in a meaningful and insightful way, we need to be able to better understand what gold is hidden within our databases, what the limitations are of the data we have and guidance on ways to optimise the use of the data.

Goal: Get a better handle on the data we have and what we should be aiming for in the short term, as well as the move to Cool 2.0.

Measurements: Note: these measures are somewhat vague at present because we don’t really know what we don’t know when it comes to our database and its potential.
-The time taken to extract useful data from databases is reduced.
-The volume of ‘useful’ data increases beyond what we currently have and use.
-Available data is leveraged to increase site traffic by at least 15%.

Indicators of achievement:
-The Cool Team is better able to extract useful data from databases to be used in user communications and partner reporting.
-The Cool Team knows the limitations of the existing databases and is able to proactively address these in the development of Cool 2.0.
-Future databases are optimised to provide the data required to communicate with our users better and report to funding partners in a more authentic way.

Objective: To encourage historically underrepresented (URM*) Bay Area students to opt into advance STEM courses throughout their academic trajectory

Event: Virtual Seed Networking: Connecting students with professionals at Google (preferably with shared demographic backgrounds) who can provide insight on their current roles and speak to the importance of STEM education

Due to COVID-19 many career exposure opportunities for students have been limited due to shelter in place and distant learning. Rising AP STEM Scholars (RSS) provides an online community and platform for Bay Area students to connect explore careers in STEM during their after-school and lunch hours.

RSS is seeking Google volunteers to offer current and future AP Computer Science students in the Bay Area an opportunity to build familiarity with technical careers, roles and responsibilities at Google.

Volunteers will be able to share their personal and professional stories in a virtual speed networking setting.

Feel free to contact the Event Coordinator at doli.rodriguez@kaporcenter.org

*URM includes and is not limited to Black/ Af. American, Latinx, Native American/ Alaskan Native, Pacific Islander.

The main role of a Mentor is to help Ninjas through the basics of coding and to assist them in their own self led learning by creating their own projects. CoderDojo’s learning philosophy is inherently project based so Ninjas will work on their own ideas and apply them to websites, games etc.

A CoderDojo Mentor is a technically skilled individual who guides CoderDojo attendees (Ninjas) and facilitates their learning. As Dojos are set up and run by volunteers, each will have a different set of skills and way of learning available to them.

Opportunities:
1. Use your editorial skills to curate a narrative from a veteran’s story of service to compile into a one-of-a-kind legacy book.
2. Read a story on our Legacy Listing webpage and draft a brief reaction piece for our newsletter.
3. Write a creative short article that nests with our commitment to honor service, capture lessons learned, and confront life’s challenges-together.

Using The American Legacy Project’s software, our editorial staff works closely with the interview team and design team to build our flagship Physical Legacy Books. Whether you donate a few hours or join our committed team, we are glad to work with you!

What We Do:
At The American Legacy Project, we conduct interviews with veterans and their families to capture their stories of service and lessons learned. We take these interviews and veteran-submitted photos to curate custom Physical Legacy Books for the veteran. Pending veteran approval, we share portions of their narrative and select photos on our Legacy Listing webpage!
