At Capital One/ Junior Achievement Finance Park each student becomes “an adult for the day” in an electronic simulation. The students are assigned a life scenario so they can experience firsthand the real-life challenges of making personal budgeting decisions. After calculating their net monthly income and savings goals, students visit kiosks that represent different budget categories such housing, health insurance, groceries, and utilities. Anyone with real world monthly budgeting experience can become a volunteer. JA Finance Park Volunteers play a key role by helping the students understand the concepts of personal financial planning and career exploration. On Saturday, November 16, 2019, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm, Cedarlane Academy Thunderbirds’ Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) will celebrate its Fall Family and Community Festival. On this fun-filled day, Cedarlane Academy parents, staff, and community members will get together to raise awareness about our school, promote our community and business partners, fund raise for various student clubs and school programs, and most of all, create a memorable day for everyone in attendance. We will have a variety of food, demonstrations, performances, and fun activities. We are excited for Cedarlane’s continued growth and breadth of programs that prepare our students to become global leaders in a technologically advancing society. We strive for excellence and are the only school in our district that offers the Code To The Future Science Immersion Program for ALL K-8 students. We are also the only school in the district with its middle school students learning through the College Board’s Pre-AP (Advance Placement) Program. Pre-AP is offered as the Accelerated/Honors level program in Math and English Language Arts. In addition, our district was recently awarded the California School Board Association’s Golden Bell Award for our elementary and middle school dual immersion programs. Cedarlane Academy is the only school with Dual Language Immersion Programs offered in both Mandarin (6-8 grade) and in Korean (beginning in Kindergarten).
Our amazing Cedarlane teachers and advisors also facilitate a great deal of fun and enriching afterschool activities and clubs. Some of the programs we offer in addition to our team sports and activities, include afterschool art, music, dance, martial arts programs, yearbook/journalism club, and our award-winning STEM programs (Lego League Robotics, Science Olympiad for elementary and middle school, Mathletes, and Cyber-Patriot).
Funds raised through our Fall Festival will be used to support our students and teachers to purchase classroom materials, assist with educational field trips, purchase software and materials for our STEM programs, and to support the various organizations and enrichment programs.
Funding for all of our activities and programs that benefit the school is not always available though and takes a great deal of effort and volunteer involvement. To that end, we hope to get volunteer support assist with the various game booths we'll be running today.
Any possible donations including: items for raffling or auction, food or drinks, or even monetary donations, are also greatly appreciated! Since we are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations, all donations to our PTO are tax deductible subject to Federal IRS and California State Franchise Tax Board guidelines.
We appreciate your support of all the organizations and programs at Cedarlane Academy!!!
