The Organization

Seattle-based nonprofit XBOT Robotics inspires and prepares students in traditionally underserved communities to pursue STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math) learning and careers through mentored robotics competitions and hands-on projects. We have a 20-year history of providing students with free or low-cost opportunities to have fun while developing skills and gaining experiences they can use to secure summer internships, college admissions, and ultimately well-paying jobs in STEAM disciplines. Our programs typically engage approximately 800 students per year, and our goal is to engage 1800 students per year by the school year 2024-25.

The Role

If you enjoy working with people, making an impact on students' lives, and are interested in leveraging and deepening your leadership skills, this role may be for you. The Volunteer Coordinator is responsible for end to end program management of the volunteer program, including recruitment and on-boarding as well as developing a sense of community amongst XBOT volunteers who support XBOT Robotics programs and competitions. The XBOT Volunteer Coordinator works closely with our Executive Director, program directors, mentors, volunteers, community members, and members of the Seattle Public Schools.

The main areas that the Volunteer Coordinator will tackle are:
- Build out our recruitment funnel for volunteers
- Develop an volunteer onboarding program
- Tracking and improving volunteer satisfaction and engagement

This role is open to anyone. Ideally, the volunteer is located in the Seattle area and has great organization, interpersonal, and communication skills. Food will be provided for all in-person programing and events.

MIKE Program is a public health initiative, promoting healthy behaviors and chronic disease prevention techniques in support of youth in academic settings. Mike Program partners with educational institutions to engage near-age, early career health and healthcare professionals who serve as volunteer mentors for teens at higher risk of developing chronic diseases. We especially work with communities with higher rates of adverse health outcomes.
To that end, we need your help within our mentored health education program. One of the primary goals of that program is to introduce students to healthcare career opportunities. We want to showcase a variety of healthcare careers, not only those working in hospitals as a doctor or nurse, for example. Tech/ STEM in healthcare is an area that we'd like to feature with MIKE Youth. That is where you come in.
Our programming is entirely online at the moment. With that in mind, Intel volunteers could host a 5-minute online presentation about ways your organization provides technology for healthcare. What are some of the latest innovations? How are they changing healthcare delivery? A 5-minute Q&A session would follow. We are open to other ideas as well, but the general role would be the same.
