The 2nd annual Rock & Rouge Women’s Music & Food Festival & beyond will take place in October 2019 in New Orleans, Louisiana. Our festival has four main cornerstones: local women-fronted bands, local women food vendors, women empowerment panels, and the STEAM Tent for young girls. For example, we had Soul Queen of New Orleans, Miss Irma Thomas as our musical headliner. Local female chefs, such as Marilyn Doucette of Meals From the Heart, serving up exquisite Southern cuisine. We also had several notable local leaders from various backgrounds on our empowerment panels. Our STEAM Tent was put on by the Rock & Rouge Foundation and was sponsored in-part by Microsoft and ElectricGirls.

Our mission is the education, empowerment, and enrichment of young girls and women from all backgrounds in Southern Louisiana, specifically the Greater New Orleans Area. In order to make this goal a reality, we need YOUR help! Last year, we were fortunate enough to have 44 volunteers with us, and this year we’re aiming even higher. We are expecting our festival to be bigger and better in its second year, which will require all hands on deck to help make it a success. We have plenty of different opportunities and positions to be filled, so there is something for everyone If you support women’s rights, access to education for youth, and/ or music and cultural heritage, then this is definitely the event for you. Please reach out to us if you have any inquiries before applying: info@therockandrouge.com.

Thank you for your interest!

Long Beach BLAST is a nonprofit academic mentoring organization that serves at-risk youth in the Long Beach Unified School District. Through our longstanding partnership with CSULB, CSUDH and LBCC, BLAST has been matching students with Long Beach youth in grades K-12 for academic, social, and emotional development for over 19 years. Academic mentoring is a form of service learning, which allows students the opportunity to apply what they learn in class to real world experiences.

We match college students to participate in one-on-one mentoring with a child (K-12) at one of our partnering sites (LBUSD schools/YMCA and Boys & Girls Club sites) and focus on building personal trust and support to foster the child’s academics, future thinking, and character development. The minimum commitment is 20 hours over eight weeks.

Many children in our neighborhood are struggling academically, emotionally, and spiritually. As a tutor with Stowe Mission, you will have the opportunity to create a stable environment in which these students can thrive academically and learn of the immeasurable value had by each and every one of them.

You will be paired with a neighborhood student. Each week, you will attend tutoring for an hour and a half on Monday evenings and assist that student. If the student brings homework, you will help them to work through that. If there is extra time or if they did not bring homework, you will assist them with age appropriate learning materials that we have onsite. You will also have the opportunity to assist them with weekly STEM projects, life skill lessons, and physical activities.

Your role as a tutor benefits our organization and community in big ways. Through your service, we are able to provide an educational resource to a community which currently has a startling graduation rate. We are also able to support students on a personal level and remind them of the value they have because of Jesus. We are also confident that God will use this role in your life as you continue to learn more about His heart for the poor and needy and how you can be a part of serving this people group. You will also have the opportunity to develop your flexibility in this quick-moving environment.
