Opportunity Details

Do you have the skills to interview someone, could you donate a couple of hours?

Join us for part of a work ready in a secondary school, we are hosting one session around interview skills. Help the students hone their interview skills with mock interviews. You would be our business ambassador and help them to understand the process of gaining employment. Mentor the students through the interview process, provide feedback and help them rehearse the first steps to gaining a job on a one to one basis.

Join in with this exciting day with students. Help guide and mentor them with this challenge to create an innovative company for the day. Be on the final judging panel to decide the winning team. Nothing to prepare or bring. We are seeking business volunteers to illustrate to them the roles they could aspire to.

National Pike Chapter participates tin the Washington County Pennsylvania Whiskey Rebellion Festival each year with a table of information. The Chapter advertises our community endeavors. National Pike participates in an array of historic preservation projects, contributions to schools and educational programs and volunteer work which includes support for local veterans' organizations, sponsorship of programs which promote the Constitution, and donations to Domestic Violence Services of SW Pennsylvania. We would ask that volunteers help us pass out information promoting our July 18th fundraiser at Texas Roadhouse. We would like you to enjoy some of the highlights of the festival while enjoying the festival. There is a parade on Main street at 10 am, through out the day there are street performances reenacting the rebellion every hour starting at 11:15 am culminating in a tar and feathering performance at 5 pm. There is transportation to Washington Park's Fort Schneider, where there are battle reenactments and a Native American encampment. Bring a friend or two, some chairs to watch the tarring and feathering, and enjoy the festival while passing out handouts for the fundraising event.

You can help Milwaukee students earn college degrees while enjoying views from the scenic Riverwalk!

Volunteers have the opportunity to support College Possible at the eighth-annual Milwaukee River Challenge, a 5-kilometer run and 2-mile walk along the Milwaukee Riverwalk. Proceeds from the event, which takes place on Thursday, September 19, 2019, benefit College Possible Milwaukee.

We work with students from low-income backgrounds at 15 Milwaukee partner high schools, helping them earn admission into college. We also support more than 800 college students on their path to graduation.

Volunteers can choose between distributing race packets and registering participants at historic Schlitz Park, or serving as Course Marshalls throughout the course. A limited number of volunteers are also needed to staff water stations along the route.

Opportunity Details

Purpose: YouthLink’s Pathways to Education program is a community based program designed to reduce poverty and its effect by lowering the dropout rate among high-school students from economically disadvantaged communities. The program offers academic, social, advocacy and financial support to youth as a means of increasing their success in completing high-school and beyond.

Responsiblities:
•Provide social support to students in grades 9 and 10 to enhance positive group culture, create a learning environment, and offer social skills building opportunities
•Actively engage in positive role modeling for youth during program time activities
•Participate consistently in group mentoring sessions to assist students to gain social skills, new competencies and personal growth
•Assist staff with mentoring topics, program design, and co-facilitate activities with other mentors
•Take part in the set-up and clean up of group mentoring sessions
•Maintain a positive and upbeat demeanor with all youth and understand the challenges to high-school success the youth face
•Successfully complete an Orientation session to Youth and to the Pathways to Education Program and any ongoing training

Time Commitment: Availability of 2.5-3 hours per week Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Full commitment during the school year (Oct –May) is preferred.

Qualifications:
•A police check required
•Previous experience and/or an interest in working with youth
•Have some transferable recreational, creative, artistic and cultural skills/interests
•Able to work effectively within a team environment and confidently lead small groups of youth
•Have some knowledge of youth issues and the challenges in the Scarborough priority areas
•Good interpersonal skills, be inclusive, culturally sensitive and competent, non-judgmental and open-minded
•Demonstrate compassion and understanding towards the youth
•Second language an asset e.g., Tamil, Urdu, Farsi, French

Boundary Expectations:
•Maintain student confidentiality
•Adhere to YouthLink Code of Ethic, and all relevant policies and procedures
•Do not transport students
•Do not share your personal contact information with students
•Enforce expectations and guidelines in a positive manner, and refer behavioural concerns directly to on site supervisor or contact Mentor manager
•Participate in on-going training on youth development, how to engage youth, and how to develop activities on such topics as communication, self-esteem, and conflict resolution.
