The Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire is returning for its fourth year! Maker Faire is an award-winning, family-friendly event celebrating technology, education, science, arts, crafts, engineering, food, sustainability and making of all kinds. Makers create, invent, build and inspire. They fuel the entrepreneurial spirit. These events are held worldwide and we are pleased to once again host a Faire in our corner of the world. Last year over 2000 people attended this FREE event! We brought back favorites and added new events including the an hourly “spectacle” recreating the Whirlpool Compass Fountain, Lowe’s build kit stations and a larger drone zone. Everything is made possible through sponsors like you!
The fourth annual Southwest Michigan Mini Maker Faire will be held on Saturday, June 2, 2018 from 10 am to 4 pm at Whirlpool Centennial Park (just below the bluff) in St. Joseph, Michigan. Help us continue to promote the art of making in Michigan’s Great Southwest as Cornerstone Alliance partners with Berrien County Regional Education Services (RESA) and Kinexus. Cornerstone Alliance believes in innovation and promoting the entrepreneurial spirit in our community. We work with local makers to help them launch and grow their small businesses. What better place than a Maker Faire to encourage, support and mentor the next generation of inventors?
Don’t miss out on this free event! You and your family can get a first-hand glimpse into the inventive minds of our local originators, architects, makers! Marvel at what their imaginations can inspire. Appreciate their ability to bring an idea to life. These makers are visionaries who can construct things that can change the world.

World Savvy is recruiting volunteers for the 2018 World Savvy Festival! Join this energetic day as a volunteer to help celebrate and center the work of youth in our communities. Wednesday, May 9 @ University of St. Thomas, Saint Paul

If you are new to World Savvy, check out our website: www.worldsavvy.org

Part pep rally, part global summit, the World Savvy Festival is an annual culminating event for middle and high school students participating in the World Savvy Classrooms program. The day long event brings students from different schools together to share and get feedback on their research and action plans to address global issues that have local impacts. Students also engage with each other through a mini design challenge.

This year, the theme for the festival is Breaking Barriers. Students have been researching human trafficking, educational inequities, pollution, teen suicide and mental health, Black Lives Matter, food deserts, domestic violence, renewable energy, and more.

On Festival day, we’re looking for volunteers to help:

-Serve as judges, meeting with groups of students to listen to them present their projects and offer feedback using a rubric. Judges will volunteer from 9:00am- 12:00pm.
-Serve as facilitators, guiding one or more groups of students through a mini Knowledge 2 Action, design thinking workshop. Facilitators will volunteer all day (9:00am-2:30pm) and will judge in the morning.
-Serve as operations volunteers, helping with various logistics throughout the day such as guiding and greeting students, handing out lunch, and registration. Operations will volunteer from 8:00am-3:00pm.

If you are interested in volunteering as an individual or group, please contact Kelsey Larson (kelsey@worldsavvy.org).
This event would not be possible without our volunteers. We hope to see you there!

Thank you!
