Please join Michigan Women Forward, HERStory in kicking off the 2019 induction cycle for the Michigan Women's Hall of Fame! With our recent acquisition of the Michigan Women’s Historical Center and Hall of Fame, and the Entrepreneur Institute of Mid-Michigan, as well as the expansion of our programs into Lansing, Kalamazoo and Jackson, we have made a statement with our bold new brand, Michigan Women Forward. A brand is more than a logo; it is a promise, and we promise to move women forward in our state.

It is, truly, because of our supporters, that Michigan Women Forward has expanded our impact and outreach. Because of them, more women have started and grown successful businesses. Because of them, 100% of the middle and high school girls participating in our summer camps reported that they will go on to higher education, having learned about high value careers, effective preparation for college, that entrepreneurship is an option and that they have unlimited potential. And, because of them, all 11,341 rape kits in the Detroit backlog have been tested.

Volunteers will assist in creating the judging packets of Hall of Fame nominations and reorganization of museum storage spaces in preparation for new Hall of Fame materials.

For 65 years the MDA has partnered with the IAFF fire fighters to raise donations for the MDA through the Fill the Boot program. Each year, more than 100,000 fire fighters, go beyond the call of duty, and hit the streets in their communities, asking their neighbors to fill their boot with contributions to the MDA. Donations raised by the fire fighters have played a vital role in funding research for muscular dystrophy and helping to provide care for individuals and families living with muscle disease.

We are looking for volunteers to support the fire fighters with their Fill the Boot efforts.

Do you want to join the fire fighters and become an MDA hero? Sign up below and we will send you all the details.

Event & Outreach Volunteers are responsible for conducting outreach activities, in an effort to build awareness and attract new partners, collaborators, and supporters to Music Heals. The volunteers work with the Community Outreach Coordinator and local partners to support existing opportunities as well as assist in developing new local partnerships. Outreach takes place at events ranging from small and large scale Music Festivals, and partner events.

Music Heals is an all inclusive, safe, and accessible volunteer environment. We welcome volunteers of all abilities, gender identifications, and backgrounds.

Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities:

1. "Shuck It Forward" - May 26th, 2019, 10am-6pm, Coal Harbour
•Bikers For Autism is again revving up efforts to raise awareness and funds for individuals and families affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by announcing the fifth annual edition of its flagship Shuck It Forward event taking place at Chewies Oyster Bar in Coal Harbour (1055 West Hastings). Shuck It Forward — which has raised more than $110,000 since its inception in 2015 — is only one of a number of events, programs and fundraising initiatives championed by Bikers For Autism. Last year, Bikers for Autism teamed with Music Heals to hold a music therapy ride from Vancouver to Pemberton that raised more than $70K for ASD-related music therapy programs, and regularly works with support organizations such as the Pacific Autism Family Network, Autism Support Network, SUPA Society, Little Heroes Hockey Academy and ET Music Therapy.

•NEEDED: 2 to 3 fun, outgoing volunteers that are comfortable having a few drinks and socializing/connecting with people will be needed for the day. Volunteers will be at the Music Heals booth handing out information on the Music Therapy Motorcycle Ride as well as selling tickets.

2. "Monstercat Compound" - August 24th, 2019, 2pm-9pm, 380 Railway Street
•Monstercat Compound is a non-profit, community focused event that is held at Monstercat HQ in Vancouver, BC. It is a free block party with two stages of music, live art, gaming, and a focus on music education. It takes place during the day, on the street outside the Monstercat office and is open to all ages. Music Heals has been a charity partner since 2017.

•NEEDED: 2 volunteers to be present at the event at the Music Heals booth. Volunteer activities will include handing out Music Heals information to attendees, and engaging with the crowd.

3. "Music Heals presents the Music Therapy Motorcycle Ride" - August 24-25, 2019. Volunteer times TBA
•Music Heals presents the Music Therapy Ride in partnership with Bikers for Autism! Join us as we ride up the majestic Sea to Sky for a campout party under the stars in Pemberton BC with live festival style performances!
This event brings together prominent members of Vancouver’s business community, music industry, music therapists and motorcycle enthusiasts —all sharing the love of music and providing music therapy to those most in need. Since 2001, MTR has raised more than $1 million enabling the delivery of 24 music therapy programs and the production of 11 Bandwagons—innovative mobile recording studios used by therapists at care facilities including B.C. Children’s Hospital, Ronald McDonald House and Canuck Place Children’s Hospice.

•NEEDED: 50-60 volunteers responsible for numerous activities (registration, check-in, vip, silent auction, food/beverage, etc). For more information, please contact cat@musicheals.ca

If you are interested in volunteering with Music Heals, feel free to contact our Community Outreach Coordinator, Cat Thomson at cat@musicheals.ca
