Contribuiremos a la restauración de este vital ecosistema mediante la plantación de árboles nativos. Además, participaremos en una enriquecedora jornada de educación ambiental y reconocimiento de la avifauna local, aprendiendo sobre la importancia de la conservación y la biodiversidad. Participa con Bauen Project en una jornada de limpieza de playas y plantación de manglares en Jurubirá, Nuquí, Chocó, uno de los paraísos naturales de Colombia. Ayudaremos a proteger este ecosistema marino mediante la recolección de residuos,plantación de mangles y la sensibilización sobre la contaminación. Además, realizaremos una jornada de educación ambiental y reconocimiento de la biodiversidad marina, incluyendo la observación de herpetos. Impacto:
Este voluntariado no solo te permitirá descubrir paisajes impresionantes y una cultura rica, sino que también contribuirás al desarrollo económico y fortalecimiento de capacidades de las comunidades locales. La Expedición Juntanza se dedica a la restauración ecológica y al trabajo comunitario, promoviendo soluciones basadas en la naturaleza y el desarrollo sostenible.

Itinerario:
Día 1
Empezamos este voluntariado con una salida desde el puerto de Nuquí hacia Jurubidá. El trayecto en lancha te permitirá disfrutar del paisaje marítimo y la transición hacia un entorno más remoto y auténtico. Navegaremos por el río Chori hasta llegar a la comunidad indígena Embera en la aldea etnoturística Kiparate. Aquí, te recibirán con la calidez y hospitalidad características de la comunidad. Aprenderás sobre sus tradiciones, sistema de pensamiento y arquitectura, sumergiéndote en su mundo cultural único. La velada incluye una cena y un baile tradicional de aves realizado por las mujeres y niñas de la comunidad, una experiencia vibrante que celebra la rica herencia cultural Embera.
Día 2
Después de un desayuno revitalizante, descenderemos por el río Chori hacia Jurubidá, donde te esperarán los termales. Disfruta de las propiedades terapéuticas de estas aguas termales, un momento perfecto para relajarse y reconectar con la naturaleza. Te embarcarás en una caminata guiada, explorando la biodiversidad y la cultura de la región. Aprenderás sobre los herpetos locales y otros aspectos fascinantes de la flora y fauna. Además, participarás de la limpieza de playa y en la plantación de un manglar rojo (Rhizophora mangle) en las orillas del río Jurubidá - Chori, contribuyendo activamente a un proyecto comunitario de restauración y mantenimiento de este vital ecosistema. La jornada culminará con una cena deliciosa y una noche libre en Jurubidá, donde podrás relajarte y reflexionar sobre las experiencias del día.
Día 3
Si asistes a esta actividad entre junio y septiembre: Comenzaremos temprano con una emocionante actividad de avistamiento de ballenas. Observa a estos majestuosos animales en su hábitat natural mientras migran a lo largo de la costa pacífica, una experiencia verdaderamente inolvidable. Con el corazón lleno de recuerdos, regresaremos en lancha a Nuquí, cerrando este viaje transformador con una última vista del esplendor natural del Pacífico colombiano.

Transporte aéreo desde Medellín y Bogotá.
Transporte marítimo: Traslados en lancha durante toda la estadía - Traslados por el río Chori hacia la comunidad indígena de la Jagua.
Hospedaje comunitario por 2 noches.
3 desayunos, 3 almuerzos y 3 cenas, incluyendo un cóctel de camarón de bienvenida o un delicioso jugo de temporada.
Actividades: Conocimiento de la comunidad Embera, termales de Jurubidá, senderismo cultural y de biodiversidad, avistamiento de ballenas, y la oportunidad de plantar un manglar rojo (Rhizophora mangle) en las orillas del río Jurubidá-Chori, como parte de un proyecto comunitario de restauración y mantenimiento de este importante ecosistema.

Opportunity Details

Help stock, clean and organize our warehouse or sort incoming donations as we are on a mission to help fill a classroom, not a landfill! We take in corporate and local donations of school, office and other supplies to provide free items and support to teachers and other non-profits. Our warehouse is fine sorted and organized so educators can scan and shop (for free!) for just what they need, including creative reuse items! If you love organizing and sorting, we'd love to have you help in our Batcave sorting incoming donations.

Volunteers will also get to tour our makerspace and have time to check out our curiosity shop for vintage and secondhand items, cool creative supplies and original artwork.

Ocean Debris Cleanups: We are actively addressing Kauaʻi's marine debris issue through cleanup events. In 2024, over 300 volunteers, supported by 28 local organizations, successfully removed over 100,000 pounds of marine debris from Kauaʻi's marine ecosystems.Plastic Upcycling Program: We believe in turning challenges into opportunities. Through our plastic upcycling program, powered by precious plastic machinery, we upcycled over 1,000 pounds of ocean plastic in 2023, transforming it into functional and beautiful creations. This initiative not only addresses plastic pollution but actively involves the community in creating a cleaner, greener future.

The goal of a coach to to help participants grow their knowledge of ethical angling as they compete in our Youth fishing league. Teach kids about ethical angling and connecting them to nature is so important to making sure the next generation has a relationship with our natural world. This will ensure they will grow to respect nature as well as enjoy the benefits of spending time outdoors.

Chicken Protective Services (CPS) Opportunity Description

Goal:
To safeguard Hero Kids Foundation’s cherished chickens from hawk intrusions while fostering human-animal connections that enhance our Nature Center of Excellence programs.

Description:
Have you ever dreamed of channeling your inner secret service agent, complete with sunglasses, an earpiece, and a cool call sign? Here’s your chance! At Hero Kids Foundation, we’ve established an elite squad known as Chicken Protective Services (CPS)—a team of highly trained (and highly entertaining) volunteers dedicated to protecting our feathered friends from aerial predators.

Located just 1.5 miles from a hawk preserve, our chickens are prime targets for these crafty flyers who seem to think we’re running a Chick-fil-A drive-thru. CPS not only acts as a deterrent to our hawkish visitors but also gives our chickens daily doses of human interaction. This makes them friendlier, more social, and better participants in Hero Kids Foundation’s therapeutic and educational programs.

Purpose: A Celebratory Culmination
After 4 years of dedication, we’re finally reaching the culmination of our project at Villa Cerro Castillo, and you’re invited to help us cross the finish line.

Since 2020, we’ve built an organic garden and modern greenhouse to support sustainable health and food sovereignty, training a local gardener to integrate it into the school’s program with students and teachers—all within Patagonia’s challenging environmental and cultural landscape.

Now, we’re bringing it all together with a special trip to finalize the project. Join us to build a pedagogical educational landscape and food forest, as well as create an official educational curriculum—creating a scalable model that can inspire and grow throughout the Aysén region and integrate directly into the education system.

This is more than a trip; it’s a celebration and a chance to leave a lasting legacy.
