The purpose of the event is to collect prairie seeds from a Prairie remnant in Story County so that these seeds can be used elsewhere in the county for native prairie plantings.

We will collect prairie seed at Story County's hidden gem, Doolittle Prairie. Story County Conservation (SCC) will show you what to collect and provide information about the plants around you as you work. This family-friendly seed harvest is a great opportunity to learn more about the prairie and lend a helping hand.

Registration is required at http://cerv.is/m?0342x171.

Please bring a full water bottle. Volunteers need to come prepared for the weather with long pants, heavy duty walking/hiking shoes and working gloves. Sunscreen, insect repellent and eye protection are likely to be helpful.

Kabakoo is a pan-African network of creative schools offering sustainability-focused training for digital manufacturing. Selected by the World Economic Forum as a "School of the Future". Our curriculum merges high-tech and low-tech (local forms of knowledge) and is designed for students to acquire and develop advanced leapfrogging skills. Our problem-based pedagogy and our focus on local relevance ensure real-world success for our students. Either as employee or entrepreneur.

Kabakoo is a changemaker in the learning space. In less than two years of operations, in addition to being selected by the UNESCO as partner for its "Imagining Africa's Future" Program, Kabakoo has been selected by the World Economic Forum as global pioneer for the future of education thanks to our impactful and scalable model. Furthermore, Kabakoo has been featured in the African Union's list of the most innovative educational projects of the continent. Moreover, thanks to our engagement in environmental education, Kabakoo has been selected as Non-State Actor in the global Coalition on Climate and Clean Air.

Join Kabakoo now by sharing your experience and knowledge as Coach or Mentor!

COACHES:
Participate in our knowledge sharing experience by remotely accompanying a group of learners. You can, for instance, have monthly or weekly online sessions with a project group at Kabakoo. If you want to know more about the challenges and maybe the joys of online knowledge exchange through Kabakoo, you can contact Ryan Hoover (rhoover@mica.edu), faculty at the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore, USA. Ryan has taught 3D-printing skills to the Kabakoo community through online workshops.

MENTORS:
A Kabakoo mentor dedicates one hour of her/his time every fortnight for a skype-type discussion on specific problems faced by the learners. For any first-hand impressions of the mission, please feel free to contact Ebenge Usip (ebenge.usip@etu.upmc.fr), a Paris-based computer programmer who acts as a mentor on programming issues.

From August 1st 2019 we are carrying out a project on birdlife conservation at Lake Tota (Colombia), aiming to help on protecting an endemic and endangered bird species called Apolinar's Wren (Cistothorus apolinari), at a certain location site of this lake. Work will consist on field and academic research, habitat restoration, community integration, workshops with locals in the surrounding rural area (adults and children), and a birdtourism package preparation to involve both locals as service providers, and birdlife travellers & enthusiasts (national and international level).

The volunteering opportunity offered (Field & Community Assistant) will have the purpose of cooperating on assisting the whole work in every front (in permanent articulation with the project leader), helping on integrating and providing the team with the resources and logistics needed, as well as to having other certain role responsibilities on the project structure (which will depend very much on the volunteer's profile).

By having two volunteering opportunities available, we expect to have one person with emphasis on field work, and another one on community work.
