This free celebration, attracting at least 250 visitors, features different aspects of wildlife each year. Previous themes include crepuscular and nocturnal forest creatures, and currently threatened species or those which have overcome endangered status. Families are first are greeted by volunteer musicians in our Outdoor Classroom, where local libraries facilitate seasonal crafts and activities. The large group is then divided into smaller ones for visiting the “animals,” who are stationed along our many trails. Volunteers lead groups to each station, where an “animal” provides an interactive dialogue about forest life. (“Animals” are costumed volunteers wearing detailed, hand-crafted disguises, complete with faux fur, feathers, and props for an accurate representation of each critter.) After twelve minutes, an air-horn blasts signals for the group to rotate. After every group has cycled through each station, everyone returns to the Outdoor Classroom for donuts and cider. In contrast to other autumn activities, “Animals of Halloween” is not spooky; the family-friendly program is designed to educate and entertain visitors of all ages.Available Shifts

We have received funding from The W. Garfield Weston Foundation and RBC to hold a Student Action Competition during spring 2020. This Student Action Competition will encourage Canadian students to conserve water, to encourage others to conserve water, to learn about where their drinking water comes from (only a little more than 50% of Canadians know where their drinking water comes from), teach other Canadians about the source of their drinking water, learn what could pollute their drinking water and teach others about this as well, and much more. The competition is open to all kindergarten to grade 12 schools across Canada. There will be one national grand prize valued at $3,000 for the top school in Canada in the kindergarten to grade eight category and one national grand prize valued at $3,000 for the top school in Canada in the grade nine to grade 12 category. Each national grand prize will include a water bottle filling station, a commemorative plaque, and possibly some reusable water bottles and/or water testing kits! There will also be a prize package for the top school in Saskatchewan. It is valued at $2,200 and includes a water bottle filling station and a commemorative plaque. (Note: If the top school(s) in Canada is/are located in Saskatchewan then the second or the third place school in Saskatchewan will win the prize package valued at $2,200.)We are looking for judges for the Spring 2020 Student Action on Canadian Water Attitudes Competition. The judging can be done from your own home, or anywhere you have Internet access. We would prefer that judges reside in Canada but would consider judges from other areas as well.
1、专业的底栖动物调查课程培训;
2、底栖动物调查手册;
3、组成调查小分队,并在其中担任重要角色;

It is time to change the perception among Amazonian residents and governments that the rainforest is endless. It is not. And it is under daily assault from loggers, large scale agriculture, and ranching. At our forest reserves in the Peruvian Amazon, we are working to grow and plant high-value seedlings of 40+ species of native Amazon trees. We are restoring degraded areas in our reserves with these species, and are also working with local land-owners to reforest their own lands. Properly managed and cared for, tree crops in the Amazon represent a sustainable high-value source of income. At the same time, such crops protect soil fertility, provide animal habitat, protect streams, rivers, and water supply, and sustain the biodiversity for which the Amazon is justly famous.Our shade houses currently produce several thousand chemical-free seedlings for planting each year, and we plan to branch out to school-operated nurseries in neighboring communities. We use no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides in our production process, and the only fertilizer used is composted animal manure. By planting tree crops along with food crops when a land-owner clears a patch of land, we can jump-start forest regeneration, using the highest value species. When food production ceases in 3-4 years (the time a typical slash-and-burn patch is farmed), valuable tree seedlings will already be well established and able to outcompete the weedy shrubs and vines that normally take over once weeding stops. As trees mature and are harvested, the land-owner has a valuable source of income, and pressure on more distant natural forests is greatly reduced. People live in the Amazon and will continue to do so. What we seek to do is help them better manage the natural resources that they currently have, so that those resources are still available in the future.
Volunteers can make valuable contributions by maintaining and expanding the nurseries, actively planting and weeding around valuable tree seedlings, and by working with private landowners, schools, and other interested parties to encourage area residents to take an active role in forest care and management. It can be dirty sweaty work at times, but seeing emerging forests of young trees that have been heavily over-harvested or extirpated from many areas is hugely rewarding. Your efforts will be paying off for decades and beyond!
