In partnership with Junior Achievement of America, Project LEDO brings the Financial Literacy program to students across the Portland Metro area. Volunteers are critical to the success of our programs and have the opportunity to impact a large number of students in a short span of time. As a volunteer, you will inspire and prepare young people for their futures and help youth avoid the financial pitfalls so many adults currently face.

Junior Achievement Traditional Classroom Programs bring volunteers into the classroom to teach students, K-12, about entrepreneurship, personal financial literacy, and workforce readiness. This sharing brings the curriculum to life for students, helping them not only to better understand the JA lessons, but also to make the correlation between a solid education and the opportunities it provides. JA programs are aligned with the common core standards for Math, English and Language Arts.

"In 2020, we carried out a research to identify potential causes & effects of mental and social isolation among the youths and teenagers. Our 24-months project based on the result of this research, is a structured empowerment incubator program that provides a series of workshop, role play and training to youth in areas of social/mental relationships, financial literacy, leadership, entrepreneurship & volunteerism. Our approach is unique as our research identified that mental health issues affecting the youths cannot be solved in isolation of other critical growth areas, the solution has to be holistic addressing all growth areas"

Overview
UPchieve is a free, online platform that connects low-income students in the US with live, volunteer coaches (that’s you!) any time they need it. Our volunteer experience was designed to be ultra-flexible because we believe it should be easy for awesome people like you to help students succeed. Our text-based chat allows you to help students from anywhere with an internet connection: whether that be from your desk at work or from the comfort of your couch!

How You Can Help
As an academic coach, you’ll work directly with motivated students, 13+ who can’t afford private tutoring or admissions consulting and often don’t have anyone else they can turn to for help. All of our students attend Title 1 schools or live in low-income zip codes.

Steps:
1. Create a volunteer account at upchieve.org/volunteer
2. Complete UPchieve 101. This 30-60 minute training will help you feel confident when working with students.
3. Pass at least one quiz in any of our subjects! We provide review materials & encourage using Google.
4. Select when you want to be notified of student requests. UPchieve will text you when a student needs your help! No worries if you can't pick up every request! UPchieve notifies multiple volunteers when a student needs help.
5. Begin making an impact! Many students will go from confused to confident in the course of just one tutoring session. Those “aha” moments feel great!
