Transformation Afterschool Enrichment program was started in 2010 by devoted individuals who were determined to ensure the successful academic and social integration of youth from immigrant families in the Charlotte community. As we begin our current school year, it is our hope that we can continue to contribute to the community by making every effort to serve this often overlooked populace. We could not begin again without the support of the families involved, the numerous volunteers, and the generous assistance of our community partners!
Please join us as we express tremendous gratitude to the generosity of Second Harvest Food Bank and our Partner Bethlehem Center, Coca Cola Consolidated, who have partnered with us and allowed us to continue a life changing programs we are providing to our community.

Our mission is to provide free Afterschool Literacy and Math Assistance, Afterschool Enrichment, and Adult Educational Services to students and families of immigrants and refugees.
The vision of Transformation Afterschool Enrichment is to contribute to a stronger community AND create educational partnerships, by creating cultural and linguistic bridges between students, parents, and teachers.

TRANSFORMATION AFTERSCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM GOALS:
• To increase academic understanding by providing daily homework assistance to each child enrolled
• To provide an environment that fosters greater confidence in the ability to learn and speak English
• To provide enrichment activities that promote academic excellence and social integration
• To increase home and school interactions by offering basic English and Civic and Social Awareness classes for parents

We are constantly reaching for volunteers to connect with children living in orphanages around Bulgaria. This mentorship programme is crucial for the kids as this is how they learn new things, life lessons or anything else a volunteer could provide. Every volunteer has something to tell to a child - about work, or skills, about career choices, ups and downs, about stubbornness or simply about love.

We have been doing this for 8 years now and although there is not a direct connection between children's success and our friendship-mentor programme, kids develop much better than when left alone.

We fundraise in order to be able to travel to the children and befriend the many volunteers travelling mainly from Sofia to around 20 orphanages in Bulgaria. We do this every weekend, every month for 8 years now and although we do not promise the children that we will come back, we always do.

Collect used (in good condition) PC laptops, sand toys, stacking blocks, Duplos, jump ropes, balls, children's clothes, shoes, books, etc. for us to take to the destitute children in Kenya.
Ask your friends and neighbors to set things aside and let us know when you need something picked up. We take things to Kenya each January and June. We hope you can come with us some time, but this project is a great way to participate at home and in your neighborhood and to feel a connection to Achungo and to involve others (your children or friends).

BARK Therapy Dogs helps children learn to read through the use of friendly, nonjudgmental therapy dogs. We are looking for volunteers to assist children with signing in, choosing a book, and showing them to a dog to read with at our library visits in various areas of Southern California - usually once per month. We are also looking for volunteers with friendly dogs who might like to become a therapy team. Dogs just need to have a good temperament, be well-behaved, and know their basic obedience commands (we no longer require CGC testing prior to our evaluation). More information can be found at barkdogs.org or call us at 562-235-8835.

For each of our Forum events, we bring people together to brainstorm the topic and decide on what the focus of the theater experience will be. Out of these sessions/focus groups, The Forum puts together an outline to share with the evening's moderator. Forum panelists see nothing in advance.

This group also talks about marketing strategies and discusses the potential opportunities to leverage the Forum evening for our constituents and the community at large.

Read to Succeed is a volunteer program that helps match area school children with volunteers who will commit to, at least, once a week, to help mentor a child in a school setting. This program allows children who are at-risk, and falling behind in reading, to get the one-on-one help and encouragement from caring individuals.

Each volunteer will be assigned a school and classroom in which they will work with the individual teacher who will identify a child in need of mentoring. The teach will also provide the guidance, curriculum, and oversight to the volunteer while in their classroom.

All Read to Succeed volunteers must pass a background check both with the FBI and BCI. There are funds available through the Tiffin-Seneca United Way to help pay for the background checks. This is a great way to truly make a HUGE difference in a child's life. By improving children's reading skills, you are helping that child to succeed in school, and in life!
