The fact remains that at least 1 in 10 children worldwide has already lost, or is at risk of losing, the loving care of their parents.But we can turn this situation around!
The key is quality care, and investment into it has a multiplying effect as children receive enriching care, flourish and realize their potential from generation to generation. It all starts with ensuring that children have the quality care of a parent or another caregiver from a very young age until they are ready to start a career. Care for children makes the world a better place.
That is the care effect.
Be an Uncle/Auntie for a Day along with your colleagues, friends or family members. Come and invest time with a family!
●No need to buy material gifts for the kids, just be ready to inspire them with your life stories.
●No need to hire party hosts or magicians, just prepare fun and recreational games.
●No need to order or pack meals, just bring ingredients to cook and dine with the entire family.

Volunteer teaching is perhaps the most popular and varied of all volunteer projects abroad. From helping with ESL conversation classes and running math and science courses to teaching computer skills and other adult education courses, volunteer teaching abroad is far broader than just teaching English to children.So whether you're a freshly minted TEFL graduate, a mid-career professional with an in demand skill, or a retiree with years of teaching experience, finding a volunteer teaching program abroad could be just the way to interact and experience a new culture while helping to improve education.

ALNF has developed its award-winning Living First Languages Platform (LFLP), which is a digital platform that equips Indigenous Language Speakers with the tools to collect, record, organise and share their words, sentences and stories.ALNF is seeking volunteers to help ALNF explore some critical features to help grow and scale the LFLP (see below).
The platform consists of a CMS with specifically designed APIs that allow us the generation of products from stored content. The first product created has been an offline capable web app through which users can navigate through the text, audio and image content as well as allowing editors to submit and edit and categorise words and stories with associated audio and upload imagery.
The LFLP recently won the 2019 SXSW Interactive Innovation Award in the category of Innovation in Connecting People. The LFLP is a previous finalist in the 2016 Google Impact Challenge.
Based on demand, ALNF has an opportunity to grow and scale this innovative solution to preserve and revitalise Australia's and - potentially - the world's endangered Indigenous Languages
- The following is a presentation of the structural design of the Living First Language Platform: https://www.dropbox.com/s/ikcj16uh5c95so7/ALNF%20-%20First%20Languages%20App%20Deck%20new.pdf?dl=0

ALNF is seeking volunteers to help it achieve two tasks: (a) set up a consumter-facing Knowledge Base with Confluence and (b) assisting with meeting the onboarding needs to LFLP personas
(A) setting up a Knowledge Base on Confluence [if this is the best tool to use] along with integration with Jira and Jira Service Desk
As ALNF prepares to onboard new Speaker Groups in various parts of remote Australia, it becomes imperative that ALNF establish an online Knowledge Base where platform users can go to:
- (a) find information on how to perform tasks on the platform (e.g. adding recordings, editing words, managing users, etc);
- (b) submit bug and feature requests; and
- (c) locate the latest release notes.
Presently, ALNF collaborates with a software vendor via Jira to manage the platform's backlog. ALNF is keen to establish it's own Jira instance and explore further integration to better support users on the platform and triage requests from the user community.
Success looks like the following:
- feedback on whether Confluence is the best solution for a customer-focused knowledge base;
- if so, best practice advice on establishing a knowledge base for (a) platform administrators and (b) content editors;
- if not, advice on what alternatives would be recommended (whilst ALNF considers Confluence for Knowledge Management amongst ALNF staff and collaborators);
- support in using Jira and Jira Service Desk in order to manage the submission of bugs and feature requests from those in the field.
(B) assist ALNF with exploring the on-boarding experience of a range of users of the LFLP.
This is likely the bigger request. At this stage, ALNF is proud of the digital platform that it has established, and it has had the advantage of being able to face-to-face onboard Language Communities onto the platform. This, however, will not meet the current and future demand for the platform.
To grow, we need to map the processes required to onboard new Language Communities. In other words, we are confident in the language app that we have created and what users can do with it, but there a number of steps involved in setting up a Language Community's workspace.
We turn to the expertise of Atlassian to assist in ideating on the best workflow to onboard our given personas. which including community organisations, schools, individuals, and more.
We ask Atlassian staff to conduct a workspace to help ALNF map the onboarding process for some key personas, so we can:
- (a) apply human-centred design thinking to better map the crucial steps required to get various personas onto the platform.
Success looks like the following:
- Atlassian facilitating a workspace that demonstrate how it uses human-centred design to map out the onboarding;
- Facilitating a workshop where various onboarding workflows are mapped (and critical steps identified);
- Consequently, identifying techniques that assist retention as well as those that could be barriers to onboarding.
ALNF would - then - be able to take the outputs from this session to more clearly refine its onboarding strategy and work requirements.
