Volunteer to head up a book drive to help 170 kids, ages 9-11 who attend Camp Rosenbaum receive free books. The campers stem from low-income housing complexes throughout Oregon and SW Washington. While attending camp, in July, each camper receives 3+ books for their enjoyment during camp and to take home. New and/or slightly used books are needed for boys and girls, ages 9-11.Available Shifts

Opportunity Details
Volunteers will visit basic schools, high schools, shelters, community organizations, youth development groups and children in poor communities, split them into groups and organize a sports clinic (basketball, volleyball, soccer, etc) introducing a sport for about 45 minutes. After the clinic a meeting will be held to address social issues such as health, education, religious tolerance, social behavior, environment, pursuance of peace. These meetings will be in collaboration with a health and/or education expert. Together with the school, the expert will work out an agenda for the meeting. Specific Tasks Identified
All placement tasks are flexible depending upon the needs and abilities of both parties.
To support organization in administrative task e.g. database management.
To identify funding opportunities and to develop grant proposals.
To lead sports clinics for youth and to use the clinics as an opportunity to teach topics in public health.
To conduct outreach to youth (ages 8-15) at schools and in the surrounding community.
To facilitate literacy and mathematics tutoring programs.
Skills/education/experience required
No prior experience playing sports is required, although the participant must have a passion for learning and teaching sports. Administrative, communicative and leadership skills are highly appreciated.
Support provided by Hoops Care International
The volunteer will receive a comprehensive orientation at the beginning of the program. The volunteer will also receive mentorship and be accompanied by educated health outreach professionals.
Other information, needs or requests
Volunteers can bring any sporting equipment (basketballs, volley ball, kick balls, nets, etc) as well as small games (board games, marbles, jacks, etc).

Opportunity Details
Tumaini Miles of Smiles Centre runs a children's Home and a school. The teaching opportunity includes, reading and essay writing, mathematics, physical education, sports and art. Our volunteers nomally tells us where they would fit. Our child care prgram is at the children's home and our volunteers help with after school home work, food servng, children bathing and help with other chores in the home and generally play with the children.Available Shifts

Opportunity Details
Loren Rubin, HOLA’s Director of Leadership and Summer Programs, will lead a Volunteer Training for all volunteers. The training is open to all mentors and volunteers, new and old, and is mandatory for anyone who has not already attended this training.
