Join us on March 3 for United Way Reading Day presented by EY and inspire thousands of North Texas children with a love of reading! Education opens doors, broadens horizons and sets kids up for success. And reading is the gateway to education. When kids have the skills, they need to succeed in school—like reading at grade level—it empowers them to reach their full potential. Volunteers will promote literacy and celebrate the joy of reading as they read to primary school scholars across North Texas classrooms. As a Reading Day volunteer, you will read a book about the importance of diverse friendships to a classroom of elementary students. Books will be provided on site.

Travelnitch began with a simple dream of inspiring kids [to travel] through books, games, and crafts. One way we accomplish this is with Books Beyond Borders (https://travelnitch.org/books-beyond-borders/)—a curated collection of books encouraging kids to travel the world from home.

As a member of the American Booksellers Association, we market a wide variety of titles for big and little explorers, but we LOVE spotlighting our favorites, like this one: https://travelnitch.org/sumo-joe/

We are currently seeking volunteers who love to read—everything from children's board books to young adult fiction—and write. You should also share our affinity for travel. As a children's book reviewer, your primary role would be reading and recommending new titles for parents through entertaining & informative blog posts. We have plenty to share with you (as e-books), or you can recommend your own personal favorites!

Travelnitch is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. As such, we rely on volunteers to help further our mission by connecting families through thoughtful content and engaging kids through informative, online programming. We'd love your support—reach out today!

“My attempts to make a positive difference in the lives of mothers and their families, during these difficult times, are intended as a gift to them, but the reality is that I get back as much as I give.”
Nankind Volunteer

Imagine a world where every family with cancer receives the care needed for their children – so they have enough time to care for themselves. Now, also imagine a world where every child receives the support they need to cope with their parent’s illness or death.

Nankind (Formerly, Nanny Angel Network) offers rewarding volunteer positions for skilled childcare providers who are looking to make a difference in the lives of families.

Virtual Angels provide supportive cancer care, by engaging children every week in homework-aid, educational and emotional support (Homework Club) OR age-appropriate 8 activities that are delivered for free monthly to the volunteers and families (Fun In A Box) to help the children navigate the changes that come with a cancer diagnosis and healthily address their emotions.

Nankind volunteers receive specialized training including grief and bereavement and receive the support of NAN’s Child Life Specialist throughout their volunteering time.

Come share your love for books and reading with the students of Oakland! Volunteers are invited to sign up as guest readers for the 9th Annual African American Literature Read-In Week during the first week of February 6th-10th, 2023, featuring books about and/or written by African American authors.

Read-Ins are 90 minute experiences. Volunteers choose from a variety of relevant books and are paired with classrooms (usually TK-Elementary age) to read a story aloud to students. During the 90 minutes, volunteers will read to 2-3 classrooms and engage with students around themes in the story. Once they have received volunteer clearance, they will be informed of the school they have been assigned. If you have a particular school you’d like to read at, email osv@oaklandedfund.org and we will try to accommodate your request!

Please note that while we encourage volunteers that are BIPOC to volunteer, we welcome volunteers of all backgrounds to participate in our Read-Ins! Also, no experience reading to students is necessary–just a great attitude and openness to engaging with young people around reading!

After signing up, all volunteers must register unless they’ve already registered as a one-time/special event volunteer with the Ed Fund. In-person volunteers must submit proof of vaccination against COVID-19 and sign a waiver prior to visiting school sites. Please invite your family, friends, and coworkers to participate in the Read-In as well!
