Children are born learning. What they learn depends on the experience they have. Born Learning Trails are research-based outdoor activity paths for parents and caregivers to walk through with their young children to encourage them to talk, listen, read, think, imagine and create. These multi-station, family-learning courses connect learning in the classroom to real-world activities around the community and out in nature. The 12 trails in Chippewa County and Eau Claire County support United Way of the Greater Chippewa Valley’s Education Initiative, which brings programs and resources together to ensure all children enter school ready to succeed.

Because we live in Wisconsin, the Born Learning Trails undergo annual maintenance to ensure trails are in tip-top shape for families to learn and enjoy during the warmer months. Volunteers are essential to the maintenance of these trails. Volunteers will be assisting in repainting the activities along the path, unbending activity signs, and possibly digging up and moving sign posts.

Learning begins at birth and United Way's Success By 6 is a community wide collaboration to ensure children are ready to learn on their first day of kindergarten. One of the ways this is done is by providing new parents with the tools and resources to be their child's first best teacher. These bags are given to new parents at the local hospital by St. Joseph School District Parent Educators and contain an age appropriate book, other tools and information about local resources.

You can help ensure this important resource is available to new parents by assembling bags for delivery.
