Stations of Imagination was created in memory of Sawyer Johnston. Sawyer had a deep love of Sesame Street. When he passed away at only 18 months old, the Johnston family partnered with WCTE in 1995 to host an annual Sesame Street children's event to honor the life of their son. Twenty-six years later, Stations of Imagination is Sawyer's legacy to our community.Stations of Imagination is a free event, open to the public. Each year WCTE serves approximately 2000 children and their families from across the Upper Cumberland region. In a typical year, we have Sesame Street character meet & greets and interactive, educational booth activities including a bubble lab, (marshmallow) engineering design station, and Odd Squad agent training course. Due to COVID concerns, our stations this year will focus more on demonstrations, storytelling and story time, and activities that allow participants to take their creations home.
Volunteers at our events can help with projects like blowing up and distributing helium balloons, helping at the activity booths, distributing water to other volunteers, or helping with the set-up or tear-down of the tents, tables, and chairs at the beginning and end of the event.

From TRASH to TREASURE – Use your imagination and creativity to make a toy(s) using items typically considered as trash such as paper, plastics, bottle tops, cardboard, and left over string. In so many communities where ChildFund works, money and resources are tight. Some children and families struggle with having basic needs met. Food, shelter, school uniforms and other necessities are a priority, leaving little for wants. This activity encourages using limited materials, to create a toy and helps us better understand what play is like for many children in our programs.
For groups of 10 people and larger: Join a virtual Lunch & Learn, hear from a ChildFund representative about our programs, and make a toy together.
This activity is great for children and families, work teams, friends, schools, youth and civic groups.

The heart of the Dare to Dream program is to walk alongside youth as they navigate through life's challenges. The youth in our Dare to Dream program need the wisdom, advice, encouragement, and community that mentors can provide. Mentors meet practical and emotional needs as well as provide guidance through developmental milestones. The goal is for youth to be engaged and to feel supported and equipped to navigate life. A mentor commits to meeting with the youth every other week to set goals and help them achieve their dreams. These relationships will hopefully last a lifetime, but the program is a year commitment. Mentors matched with a high school student are strongly encouraged to stay with the youth until high school graduation. We tell mentors that the simple act of telling their youth “I believe in you,” “You are special,” and “You are going to do great things” can change their path completely.
