The ECO Center is a hub that connects people with the essential resources, information, and opportunities they need to develop their skills so they can liberate themselves and their communities. In addition to distributing two tons of food a week to our neighbors we also teach sign language, music production, self defense, financial, technical, and academic literacy to our neighbors of all ages. In addition to our programming space, we have 3 apartments upstairs that we provide to young adults that teach and serve at The ECO Center for 15 hours a week in exchange for housing, utilities, and food.

Our goal is to purchase our building, so we can transform lives for generations to come. In order to raise $450K by August 16th (one year anniversary) we will need all of the support we can get. Please consider investing your time into this project.

ENGLISH:

At 26 Letters, we believe that it is the educational programme that should adapt to students and not the other way around. We also believe in the importance of mainstreaming ethical concepts in all our subjects, including Maths! This is why we develop our own educational materials so that they can later be personalized and adapted to each student’s needs and interests.

This is only possible thanks to our incredible curriculum development team. Our volunteers work from home with the aim of designing comprehensive, ethical and fun materials. They work independently, creating their own schedules and developing their books with total creative liberty.

At 26 Letters we all learn by doing! So, if you want to join the team you do not need to worry about previous experience. Tamar Taibo, co-founder and director of the department, will guide you and help you design your materials with all the care and patience of the world!

New Horizons students live in poverty and do not speak English at home. Their parents are not high school graduates and cannot help their children with homework. Our students are picked up after school by New Horizons buses and taken to one of our six locations and taken home after the program. They are provided help by volunteers with their homework and spend time in a computerized reading lab to help improve their reading skills. Volunteers are critical to encouraging students in their school work and mentoring them in social skills. Last year, 82% of our students were earning a C or better in reading as reported on their grade cards from public school. Volunteers make a huge difference in these students lives!!!
