Help us get our books organized for programming! Tuesday through Thursday from 10am-3pm, our warehouse is open for volunteers to sort. Come as an individual or as a team! Stop by any time - training to sort books takes about 15 minutes and you only need to be trained once. We do suggest planning to volunteer at least 2 hours to have the best experience. Please bring your own drink/water and lunch if you are staying for the whole day. Please call us in advance to schedule a group team-building sort.

parents and students. The main role is to organize and manage the recreation arts and crafts area for
students who want to hang out after receiving homework help. As well as help with program set-up,

This annual event is a way for parents and children to enjoy a "free" day at the Linn Creek City Park on October 6, 2018. We are requesting help from Kohl's employees to show children how to complete simple art or craft activities so they can complete a project for themselves. We encourage parents and children to share a day of music, dance, crafts, face painting, a free lunch and an opportunity to share special time together.

The purpose of this activity is to have adults come in and read with children. We are a Title 1 school and many of our students do not have someone to read with each night. It is important for these students to have a positive experience with an adult, as well as reading! It is also great to give these students some one-on-one attention.

Book Fair week is always an exciting time at our school. Our fair helps to fund many things for our school - events, Birthday book cart and many books for our school library and classroom libraries. This year our fair will be the same week as family conferences. We are looking for volunteers to help at the book fair during our evening conferences as many of our regular parent volunteers will be scheduled to meet with their child's teacher. We are looking for volunteers to help with students and families looking for books, keeping the fair stocked/tidy, bagging items sold and closing down/packing up the fair. All volunteers must have a picture ID to be scanned in office before entering the school.

Since our establishment as an outreach service of Council of Churches of the Ozarks in 1974, RSVP (Retired and Senior Volunteer Program) has been dedicated to improving the futures of children and older adults. Retired volunteers find renewed purpose in serving children and home-bound seniors. Volunteers improve individuals’ lives by providing companionship, literacy tutoring, and access to food. Last year, volunteers delivered compassion and assistance one-on-one to 614 persons. The need for these services continues to rise in our community. We are hosting a fundraiser to continue to meet those needs.

This year, RSVP with the assistance of St. Francis Guild will host a Rollin’ for the Future Bunco Tournament. The fundraising event will take place Friday, November 9, 2018 from 5:30 p.m. - 9 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Event proceeds benefit the children, seniors, and families served by the programs of RSVP.

Want to create meaningful change in the lives of children?

61% of low-income kids live with no children's books in their homes. The average child growing up in a middle class family has been exposed to 1,700 hours of read-alouds while children growing up in low-income families have only been exposed to 25 hours.

Our Read Aloud Volunteers work to combat these statistics for Central Virginia's low-income children. Volunteers read aloud to kids in large and small groups and lead a fun activity, including giving books to the children to build their in-home libraries. Volunteers read for about one hour, twice a month (unless the volunteer would like to read aloud more often) in locations across Richmond, Henrico, Chesterfield, & Hanover.

Once again, we are holding the Revolutionary War Reenactment at Forest Glen, September 22nd and 23rd, 2018. The reenactment strives to educate children in the area by reaching out to the schools in the area, providing questionnaires to the local teachers to hand out to their students, and the event is free to the public. We are looking for volunteers, primarily to give information to the public, but also to participate where they are comfortable in the various activities held during the event. We have always had a good time working with our volunteers and look forward to seeing them again. The event runs both Saturday and Sunday from 10am to 4pm. If Saturday will not work out for your volunteers, please let me know and I can resubmit a request for Sunday.
