On June 21-23, United Way of the Inland Valleys will pack 100,000 heart healthy meals for local charities. Many of these meals will go to young families and children. For less than $1.50, we can feed a family of six!In addition to meals, we will also give literacy kits to families to they have have books at home. A literacy kit is comprised of a popular, developmentally appropriate books and a collection of related objects, games, or other activities designed to make reading interactive and enjoyable for young children. Reading a book and engaging in the accompanying activities supports the development of a child’s language and literacy skills, as well as their creative thinking; and literacy kits help make reading fun for both the child and for the adult who is reading with the child.
Volunteers are needed to collect and organize books along with fundraising through Facebook and other means to ensure there are kits and food for each family.

Our school is currently hosting a Read-a-Thon to promote a love of reading. As part of this effort, we would love to have volunteers come in and read aloud to our K-2 classes during English Language Arts. VOLUNTEERS MAY BRING THEIR OWN CHILD WITH THEM IF NEEDED.Use of the books currently in the "Kohl's Cares" promotion would be perfect, especially if the volunteers wanted to bring along the accompanying stuffed animals to help the children visualize the characters and make the books "come to life". Volunteers would be assigned at least one classroom in each grade level.
