Despite the affluence of Oakland County, 100,000 adult residents are estimated to be functionally illiterate, unable to perform the daily tasks you take for granted, such as writing a job application, deciphering a prescription label, or reading to a child. You can change their lives for the better by volunteering to become a tutor. We will train you and support you every step of the way. If you are patient, flexible, interested in making a difference, then tutoring could prove one of the most rewarding experiences you will ever have!
As a tutor, you commit to working with a student for two hours each week for one year. We will match you with a student who lives nearby, and you would meet at a public location such as a library or tutoring can be done remotely via Zoom or other video conferencing technology. Training is also provided virtually and in person.
