What's mean and green and calls Wehr Nature Center home? A whole host of alien invaders - otherwise know as invasive plant species. Over time, they have spelled big trouble for Wehr's native plants and animals. We are looking for individuals to join our Eco Warriors, a volunteer group dedicated to battling these pushy plants. In April we will focus on Lesser Celandine, a low growing, agressive plant which creates solid carpets on the forest floor outcompeting many of our spring wildflowers. Wehr's native plants and animals will thank you! Qualifications: We will provide on the job training, but plase bring your own leather work gloves. Must be able to work outside, bend, kneel, sit to pull weeds.

Opportunity Details

At the event, volunteers comb the beaches to find, remove and record marine debris, more commonly known as litter. By removing the debris, volunteers are making the beaches and waterways safer and more enjoyable for marine life and beach goers alike. By recording the data, volunteers contribute to a legacy of information on marine debris that has been growing for 37 years! This information is utilized by COA, citizens, businesses, and elected officials to drive legislation and make changes in everyday habits that will stop litter at the source, saving our precious beaches and marine life.

Opportunity Details

The Ice Age Trail Alliance is a volunteer- and member-based nonprofit organization whose mission is to create, support, and protect a thousand-mile footpath tracing Ice Age formations across Wisconsin — the Ice Age National Scenic Trail. The Alliance has 19 volunteer chapters, including the Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter.

Join the Waukesha/Milwaukee County Chapter of the Ice Age Trail Alliance for a Trail Improvement Day on Saturday, April 9. You will be clearing invasive plants and restoring habitat along the iconic Brady’s Rocks escarpment.

All tools and training will be provided. Bring a water bottle and wear sturdy footwear and gloves.

Opportunity Details

We need a group of volunteers to help with Spring Clean-Up at the Reserve. The tasks may include raking up old garden growth, transplanting old plants, pulling invasive plant garlic mustard and dames rocket basically helping us get ready for the summer season. This is a great spring fun opportunity to work outside! Volunteer Opportunity is easily done Covid safe with social distancing while outside.

Celebrate Earth Day and our 8th birthday with us! Join us in enjoying birthday goodies and nature-based activities including tree planting/care, invasive species removal, installing blue bird boxes and more as we gather for our first volunteer event of the season. All ages and skill levels are welcome. Come at 1 p.m. for a bit of education around this work, but join us anytime between 1-4 p.m. on Saturday, April 22nd!
