New Roots, Inc., is looking for volunteers this winter to help us spread the word that farm-fresh, local, organic produce is available to Everyone, regardless of income, this growing season. We need phone calls, outreach, posters, ideas on how to get the word out.

Join our community effort to continue our resiliency work removing invasive species in a valuable wetland. The wetland covers about 8 acres of Kern Park in Bristol and, according to DEEP wildlife specialits, is expected to increase in value daily as the land surrounding the park is developed. Wetlands are the most bio-diverse land, providing a high level of services to people, primarily clean air and clean water.

Prevention derivatives is driven by the thesis that there is an under-valuation of passive risk (or the cost of inaction) and an under-prioritization of positive risk. Correspondingly for wildfires as an example, there is an under-recognition of the potential shared value upside of preventative action through social innovation and social interventions (such as goats & sheep that prevent wildfires). CrowdDoing.world's aim is to guarantee positive risk through leveraging existing liabilities to allow for the implications of prescriptive analytics to be financed. The under-pricing of passive risk means that liabilities are treated as either costs of doing business or un-predictable risks even for entirely preventable risks. Risk management offices have been too biased towards avoiding taking the wrong risks rather than ensuring that institutions make their own luck by seizing the abundant positive risk opportunities in social innovation. Meanwhile, the bias against positive risk leaves social innovations not to get adopted even if there would be remarkable benefits to all stakeholders if they were adopted

Opportunity Details

Many hands make small work. We have 6 acres of woodlands in the heart of Chase City. The winter ice storm that hit Mecklenburg VA this week has left a spaghetti mess of shattered sticks and branches in our beautiful gardens. We need a team of volunteers with rakes or brooms to fan out into the garden and pick up tree debris such as small sticks.

As a volunteer at ICPSD, you will help further our mission and build capacity both internally and externally in the communities we serve.

As a Graphic Design/Content Creation volunteer at ICPSD, you will:
- Help bring new ideas for design and content creation to the team using your expertise and eye for great design.
- Scope and create templates for our marketing team to be more efficient in their posting on social media, the blog, email, and other channels.
- Help with other design needs such as presentations, signage, and reporting collateral as needed.
- Work with a wide range of media and use graphic design software.
- Think creatively and develop new design concepts, graphics, and layouts.
- Work as a part of the team with Executive Director, board members and potentially other volunteers.

Looking for a volunteer with:
- Possession of creative flair, versatility, conceptual/visual ability and originality.
- Proven graphic designing experience.
- Familiarity with design software and technologies (such as InDesign, Illustrator, Dreamweaver, Photoshop or other)
- Expertise in social media design.
- A keen eye for aesthetics and details.
- Ability to work methodically and meet deadlines.
- A problem solving, hands-on mentality.
- A desire to learn and help in anyway possible.
- A desire to be part of something great that positively impacts society.
- A proactive mentality and able to collaborate remotely.

This position is strictly ‘volunteer’ and is an unpaid position.

ICPSD was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in the state of Idaho in 2012. Official operations began and 501(c)(3) tax status was received in January of 2015.

-Volunteers will remove by hand the plants and roots.
-Dress in long pants thick enough to stand up to thorns, brush, poison ivy, ticks, and -mosquitos (unfortunately leggings aren’t very protective).
-Wear closed-toed shoes that can stand up to mud.
-Bring gardening or work gloves. If you don’t have gloves, we will provide some.
-Face mask/cover required.
-Wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.
-Dress for the weather as we will work rain or shine.
