Help end litter in North Smithfield and all of Rhode Island. Litter tends to collect in parking areas and businesses zones that are not often cleaned if communities host a cleanup. Keep Blackstone Valley Beautiful is partnering with businesses to help tackle areas often missed but noticed frequently when people shop at stores.
We want to remove the litter we see everyday in an effort to send the message that "We do not litter in RI". If we just leave our areas littered, it becomes almost acceptable and people are more likely to add more litter when they see litter.

Worldwide Opportunities on Organic Farms, USA (WWOOF-USA) is part of a worldwide effort to link visitors with organic farmers, promote an educational exchange, and build a global community conscious of ecological farming practices.

Volunteers, or ‘WWOOFers’, spend about half of each day helping out on a host farm, learn about the organic movement and sustainable agriculture, and receive room and board during their visit – with no money exchanged between hosts and WWOOFers. WWOOFing is a way to participate in a cultural and educational exchange focused on organic farming and sustainability skills, be part of the organic agriculture movement, and experience the heart of its culture.

The WWOOF-USA® host directory lists more than 1,500 organic farms and gardens across the country. The program is open to anyone 18 years of age or older, regardless of experience. WWOOF-USA membership costs $40 (which goes directly to supporting future farmers) and is valid for one year year. We are a 100% membership supported non-profit organization. We encourage all types of WWOOFers and hosts who would like to work together to strengthen sustainable agriculture to be a part of WWOOF-USA.

WWOOF hosts offer a variety of educational opportunities, including growing fruits and vegetables, animal husbandry, beekeeping, renewable energy and construction projects, making value-added products like wool, fiber arts, wine, jam and jelly, and much more. There is something for everyone!

As a WWOOFer you will participate in the daily lives of your host family, experience a new culture and meet people from various walks of life.

Each host offers a different experience so make sure to choose one that is a great fit for you.

You will make an outstanding WWOOFer if you are:
- Genuinely interested in and passionate about organic farming and sustainable living.
- Eager to learn and excited to contribute to the sustainable agriculture movement.
- Willing to partake in the physical demands involved with farming.
- Interested in meeting people from different cultures and backgrounds.
- Enthusiastic to experience the 'real' American lifestyle and meet and live with American families.

Length of visit can vary from a single day (‘local WWOOFing’) to a few months. Children and pets may be welcome, just be sure to ask the host farmer before arriving or use our advanced search options in the online directory.

It is your responsibility to contact hosts and make arrangements for a WWOOF visit. Please be prepared to contribute four to six hours of organic farming and gardening each day for about five days a week, while receiving meals, accommodations, and a rewarding and educational experience. Join WWOOF & dig in today!
