Save The Great South Bay is gearing up for Creek Defender Days 2023!Volunteer here:
www.savethegreatsouthbay.org/volunteer
The Great South Bay will only be as healthy as the 50 creeks that flow into it. For generations, they have been blocked, built over, and become trash-filled, and polluted. The Creek Defender Program calls upon people in every community on The South Shore to become good local stewards, healing our creeks as we heal the bay. We have found that marinas make an ideal base of operations, and are reaching out to all marina owners on The Great South Bay to participate in bringing the bay back to health.
Want to join our team of Creek Defenders? Contact us at info@savethegreatsouthbay.org or
Volunteer here:
www.savethegreatsouthbay.org/volunteer
Our Creek Defender program exists in 16 towns across the South Shore of Long Island from Massapequa to Mastic Beach. We welcome your participation!
We will be reaching out to local schools, to the PTA, to all local civic groups, to local environmental groups, The Chamber of Commerce, The Rotary Club, The Kiwanis Club, The Lions Club, and local bay-related businesses.
We want to engage the whole community, to instill a sense of local stewardship.
We also want to restore native habitats through the reintroduction of native trees, bushes, shrubs, and grasses along the 50 creeks that feed the bay. If we heal the creeks, we can start to heal the bay.

On Monday, January 21, 2019, Martin Luther King Jr. Day and the National Day of Service, community volunteers will join forces in North Natomas to help 50 kids transform bike parts into 50 ready-to-ride bicycles.50 Bikes for 50 Kids is a community service event that matches 50 well-deserving youth with teams of volunteers to assemble a bike for each child on the team. These “volunteer engineers” hail from local community organizations and businesses, and range from bike enthusiasts to mechanical novices. Prior to the event, volunteers attend a class taught by professional bicycle mechanics in order to learn how to construct a bike. The mentors pass this knowledge onto the youngsters who then help assemble the bike and get valuable hands-on experience on teamwork, building and the construction of a bicycle.
United, the volunteers are able to give local youth the gift of healthy recreation that encourages both sustainable transportation and a better future -- for the young recipients and the community as a whole.

Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our River. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, create unsightly piles in our parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and could be washed out in to our ocean and beaches!YOU can help with this critical work! The Clean & Green Team is a group of enthusiastic volunteers that focus on cleaning up storm water debris and litter. Volunteers use pickers and gloves to pack this trash into garbage bags, then haul it to a dumpster.
Join us as we work to remove trash and debris from a tributary of the San Diego River, Forester Creek. This is a great activity for people interested in clean water and a clean habitat for the plants and animals that call the river home.
Location: Meet at the Santee Public Works building at 9534 Via Zapador Santee, 92071. Please see the Google map for visual location: http://goo.gl/maps/PxjrP

RSVPs are required. To RSVP or to learn more, please email volunteer@sandiegoriver.org or call (619) 297-7380.
