Last year we raised over $13,000 for Friends of the Rainforest's granting efforts. This year we are hoping to raise over $15,000 in an effort to expand our educational outreach in the Saint Louis area, allowing us to reach more classrooms, student groups and other local organizations! Saving the Rainforest starts with an understanding the benefits and we must educate others to protect and expand the Rainforest

We use the Missing Maps project to teach volunteers basic mapping techniques with Open Street Map, while also helping put the Wold’s most vulnerable people on the Map.

This project can be done at your convenience, virtually anywhere. Follow the instruction on the Missing Maps Project website (www.missingmaps.org). What you will need:

- computer w/access to Internet
- an Open Street Map account (this will be used to sign in for Missing Maps)

The Missing Maps project builds maps so that first responders can make critical decisons regarding relief efforts. Many of the places where these disasters occur are literally 'missing' from any map and first responders lack the information to make valuable decisions regarding relief efforts.

When saving your mapping additions please be sure to include #CitizenLabs in the changeset so that we can track our impact.

Opportunity Details

Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our River. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, create unsightly piles in our parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and could be washed out in to our ocean and beaches!

YOU can help with this critical work! The Clean & Green Team is a group of enthusiastic volunteers that focus on cleaning up storm water debris and litter. Volunteers use pickers and gloves to pack this trash into garbage bags, then haul it to a dumpster.

Join us as we work to remove trash and debris from a tributary of the San Diego River, Forester Creek. This is a great activity for people interested in clean water and a clean habitat for the plants and animals that call the river home.

This event is open to volunteers of all ages, but volunteers under the age of 16 must come with an adult. Closed-toed shoes are required. Sun protection, water and a snack are highly recommended. Community service hours can be verified. Groups of up to 30 people are welcome if space allows. To RSVP or learn more, please email volunteer@sandiegoriver.org or call (619) 297-7380.

"Clean water is a matter of proper training" - our spokesdog -Sparkles- the Water Spaniel

Celebrate the importance of protecting our local lakes and rivers at the Kickoff for Shorewood Waters event on June 16th at the Shorewood library. Let's face it, water is one of the most important things in our lives and we could use your help spreading that message! Just because you are volunteering, it does not mean you can't have fun. This event will include face painting, "fish painting" (more on that if you sign-up), water games, FOOD trucks, and much, much more.

As part of the Respect Our Waters campaign, there is an opportunity to be featured on TV (if you would like to do so)! So if you want to feel good by doing some good, sign up today! We just might even make you famous!
