Waimea's Earth Day Celebration! It's that special day of the year when people across the globe get together and mālama honua (care for the planet). We are very excited to welcome all of you to join us at Waimea Valley for our annual Earth Day Volunteering celebration event. We will have various projects throughout the valley for helpers of all ages and volunteers will get tickets for an exclusive raffle with great prizes.
8:30am we will have the volunteers sign waiver forms and choose which projects they want to participate in. We have various things the projects will focus on such as: garden maintenance, invasive species removal, trash cleanup, weeding and cultural site care throughout Waimea Valley property.
8:45am Opening Ceremony including an introduction to the Valley and it's history and oli protocol (a traditional Hawaiian way of exchanging chants to ask for permission).
9:00 am we will be splitting into groups, getting gloves for those that need to borrow and moving to the project sites.
11:30am the volunteering projects will wrap up and it will be time for lunch. The volunteers are encouraged to stick around for the festivities.
12:30 pm we will be staring the raffle. To receive a raffle ticket, you must have signed a waiver form and signed up for a project in the morning. These are only for the volunteers and you must be present at the drawing to win.
The raffle will go until we run out of prizes. We have some awesome gifts in store for the volunteers like a free annual pass to the valley.
Speaking of passes, anyone who participates in the Earth Day volunteering will be welcomed to come into the valley for free for the rest of that day. So you can volunteer in the morning, win a prize during lunch and go for a swim at the waterfall and a stroll through our amazing valley to end a beautiful day.
We will also have booths set up for community organizations to share their information and upcoming events. The volunteers are encouraged to visit with them during their time here.
We are all looking forward to a wonderful event and we hope to continue to grow and expand this opportunity in the years to come. Please get in touch with the Waimea Valley Volunteer Coordinator if you have any questions or want to RSVP.

To reduce the risk of Covid, there are a few rules and systems in place for the volunteer events. The rules include things like maintaining social distancing, wearing masks in the visitors center and all indoor areas, proper sanitizing, and limiting group size. We follow these to protect everyone who visits or works here. We want to do our part to keep the case load in Hawaii low and keep our loved ones safe. I apologize for any inconvenience this might cause, but it is all part of the efforts being made by our management to reduce the risks faced by our staff, visitors, volunteers and local community, so we truly appreciate you doing your part to support this system. We will be sure to inform participants of any further changes and make sure that these rules are simple and relatively easy to follow.

This is the moment we've all been waiting for! April signifies the official start of the growing season at Elk Run Farm. The days are longer, the weather is warming and our crops are ready to grow.Ever want to get your hands dirty and learn how to grow edible plants, but don't know where to start? Our weekly volunteer parties are right up your alley. These will be held every Saturday, 10am-2pm throughout the month of April and May. You can expect to do a variety of farming tasks, like direct seeding, transplanting, watering, harvesting and keeping those weeds at bay all with the guidance and direction of our farm and field manager. Check our Facebook for each week's activities.
Are you new to Elk Run Farm? Join us for our New Volunteer Orientations held on the first Saturdays of each month, 9-11AM. This will be a two-hour long introductory space where we show you who we are, what we do, specific tasks that we need extra support with, and a taste of what our volunteer parties are like. If you are enjoying yourself, feel free to stay longer and continue volunteering! The first orientation will be on May 5th.
Our parties will continue rain or shine so please keep an eye on the weather and wear appropriate clothing or rain gear. Don't forget your reusable water bottle and a snack or lunch.
About us:
