We loved seeing so many people positively respond to REI's Opt Outside campaign for Black Friday. They inspired us to launch the Annual Natural Restorations Green Friday Project beginning Friday, November 24th, 2017.We're hosting a Trash Cleanup close to the Phoenix Valley the Friday after Thanksgiving each year in celebration of Green Friday, a day to get outside, give back, and make an immediate impact by helping us remove trash from natural areas.
Join us Friday, November 24th, 2017 from 8AM to Noon as we team up with the Tonto National Forest - Mesa Ranger District for a cleanup along the Salt River. Volunteer Leads are trained to be ambassadors of Columbia Springs and our mission. They help lead volunteer work parties and activities at events hosted by Columbia Springs. They also help with various other tasks that need to be done for our programs to be successful.Volunteer Leads use “teachable moments” and environmental education techniques to teach visitors about Columbia Springs, the fish hatchery, and the natural world. It is through this teaching that Volunteer Leads help spread an ethic of environmental stewardship in Clark County.
Volunteer Leads receive training to help them become environmental educators. They are only asked to do/lead tasks they are comfortable with. On-going training, enrichment opportunities, and frequent recognition of service are all essential parts of the Volunteer Lead program.
At Columbia Springs, we believe that the volunteer experience should be equally beneficial to the non-profit and to the volunteer. We strive to create meaningful volunteer experiences.

United Way Greater Toronto’s (UWGT) DAY OF CARING provides community-minded individuals like you the opportunity to team up with your co-workers to complete volunteer projects, contributing to the amazing work happening across the region—vital work that is strengthening communities and changing people’s lives.DAY OF CARING projects focus on moving people from poverty to possibility, helping kids and youth be successful and building strong neighbourhoods across Peel, Toronto and York Region.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES MAY INCLUDE:
• Serving meals to isolated seniors or the homeless
• Reading to preschoolers
• Cleaning and tidying up a shelter or food-storage area
• Helping to maintain a youth facility or community garden
• Organizing a collection of items (e.g., hygiene products, school supplies)
CONSIDERATIONS:
• TIMING: Projects are available year-round and can be done in half-day sessions (9:00am - 12:00pm or 1:00pm - 4:00pm) or full-day sessions (9:00am - 4:00pm).
• GROUP SIZE: Average group size is 5-7 volunteers; however, there are some projects available for smaller groups (2-4) or larger groups (10-20).
• LOCATION: The volunteer projects happen mostly outside the office, at agencies in communities (across Peel, Toronto and York Region) where the need is greatest. There are also options for those who cannot leave the office.
• CAUTION: We cannot guarantee a project, if requests are sent with less than 20 business days’ notice. Projects are booked on a first-come, first-served basis.

The C&O Canal Trust welcomes business and corporate groups for a fun half day experience volunteering in a beautiful National Park environment! We can scale activities for groups ranging in size from 15-100 at a number of sites within the C&O Canal National Historical Park. Past projects have included trash cleanups, painting projects, invasive vegetation removal, and campground restoration. Get your employees out of the office and into the sunshine for team-bonding, morale improvement, and community service out on the C&O Canal! Children may be included in the group that are ages 12+. Systemic Change Gap Analysis: Systemic change is a toolset for thinking about impact. CrowdDoing (www.advancesocialinnovation.org/crowddoing) is a collaborative effort that aims to scale social innovations towards systemic change goals such that Sustainable Development Goals become achievable. If you haven't heard of systemic innovation, Nesta in the UK held a discussion of it (https://www.nesta.org.uk/publications/systemic-innovation-discussion-series). Our impact potential analysis team looks at the gap between a scenario in which a social innovation plays a meaningful modest role in social innovation and the potential for that social innovation under certain scenarios to play a transformative role in social challenges. Social innovation gap analysis is a pre-cursor to Systemic Change Gap Analysis along with Systemic Change Asset Mapping. Our volunteers collaborate in teams with project managers and human resource business partners virtually across time zones and countries.
