Position Description

We are currently building a team of tree taggers to verify global reforestation projects and accelerate Greenstand’s machine learning team. The Tree tagger will help us review, verify, tag, and label tree images. Thousands of pictures of young trees are uploaded to our verification platform. We need help figuring out what species the trees are by using theComputer Vision Annotation Tool(CVAT), a web-based image and video annotation tool which we use for tagging tree images for the development of advanced machine learning algorithms. We will train you in CVAT and our technical platform. This is a great opportunity for an interested individual to get their foot in the door of an annotation program.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will be asked to analyze tree images based on their leaf patterns, locations and accurately label/tag them using CVAT.
You will work as part of a team to integrate CVAT with our Admin Panel web application in order to complete the tree verification process.
You will review various imageson the computer and classify them according to their types of species and attach tags.

Requirements

Be passionate about trees, species identification, and machine learning algorithms.
Must be comfortable using computers and learning a new program/tool
Detail-oriented, organized, and quality-focused
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Expecting at least 3+hours in a week, 5+ preferred.
Strong communication skills.

Position Description

We are now looking for self-driven and attentive volunteers who want to aid in the curation of multimedia promotional materials for our existing media and to increase our YouTube presence. You will produce original, engaging content for our social media channels. Videos are the best way for communicating an organization's messages on online platforms, your position will play an important role.

Primary responsibilities

Manage and oversee all technical aspects of video creation and editing for internal and promotional requirements
Work with our creative teammates
Regularly collaborate with the marketing team
Follow the company's brand guidelines

Requirements

knowledge of media production and communication
An understanding of basic environmental concepts surrounding climate change, reforestation, ecosystem services, and nature-based economies
At least 3 hours per week (5+ hours preferable), including a bi-weekly team meeting.
Strong communication skills; we’d rather you over-communicate than under-communicate!
Proven ability to manage and produce video projects that are in line with our brand guidelines & communications strategy. We will ask you for at least one work sample.
Strong time management skills and the ability to self-motivate, as you may be developing some projects independently.

Our Android team is gearing up for a major development push this Spring, where they will implement major upgrades to our open-source application. Our new UX improves usability for users in remote areas of the world with low literacy while increasing their access to features that support their livelihood and efforts in forest restoration. We are scaling the team up to meet the demand created by the first version of this application!

Development of this next version for Android will leverage the Compose framework and builds off a well-factored base of MVVM code. At Greenstand, we are seeking an enthusiastic, passionate content creator and strategist who has some professional experience to join our Marketing and Communications team. On the social media site, you will be working on developing and maintaining Greenstand’s online presence through various social media channels: Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, and the World Economic Forum’s UpLink platform. You will also have the opportunity to write your own posts for Greenstand’s blog. This position will be responsible for actively updating and maintaining our social media channels, creating and brainstorming content, creating a plan to enhance online presence, and identifying opportunities for growth.


Primary responsibilities

Build and manage Greenstand’s social media profiles and presence alongside the Communications team.
Assist with blog post drafting and review.
Write regular blog posts on pre-approved topics that relate to Greenstand’s work.
Create and execute scheduled social media engagement strategies. This includes but is not limited to crafting, posting, and tracking posts across various social media platforms, social listening, follower pushes, engaging with influencers, etc.
Guide and provide strategic direction through the entire brand identity and design process.
Create a "standard" messaging approach and ad for each target audience.
Raise awareness of the importance of better reforestation practices, for the environment and for the development of a sustainable nature-based economy.
Helpful skills

Create social media graphics and collaborate on new concepts and ideas.
Ability to think outside the box for innovative ways for nonprofits to use all social platforms to achieve their goals.
Expertise in brand identity, development, and application through strategy, design, and messaging.
Highly organized and a strategic thinker and planner. More concerned about long-term impact than short-term gain.
Excellent communication skills. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
Self-motivated and can complete work independently with considerations to timelines, and enjoys working as part of a collaborative team. Time commitment is 10-15 hours per week, including a bi-weekly meeting that is flexible with its schedule.

We are currently expanding capacity in our admin panel development team, which leverages React.js and Node.js as our core technologies. If you have these skills or are learning them, we’d love to have you contribute as a member of our diverse global team.

Volunteering as a developer with Greenstand is open to all skill levels.

Requirements

Self-motivation and time management skills are absolutely necessary, as we are a fully remote organization. While some projects will be very collaborative, you may have to develop some projects individually.
Knowledge or willingness to learn React.js
Ability or interest in attending our optional weekly meetings to coordinate engineering efforts; this is a great place to learn about new tech or meet similarly minded contributors that are interested in restoring the environment.

Russian Riverkeeper is pleased to announce the exciting plans we have in store for the 35th annual Russian River Watershed Cleanup on Saturday, September 18th 2021! The September cleanup is our largest of the year and helps remove trash that accumulates over the summer months on the Russian River. This year, there will be teams across the watershed from Ukiah to Monte Rio all contributing with the shared mission of protecting our River and ocean from trash pollution. Our goal in 2021 is to beat our record of 35,000 pounds of trash, 175 tires, and 452 volunteers, and we can only do it with your help. Opportunity Details

This project aims to monitor the presence and movement of flora and fauna in the Blue Mountains and provide long-term records of changes that may reflect influences such as climate change and urban development.

Our volunteer citizen scientists service camera trap installations to capture movements of fauna in real-time as well as take manual photographs in fixed locations to capture long-term changes to flora and ecosystems.

Taking and collecting these images involves short, pleasant walks into the bush (the urban-bushland interface) along easy walking tracks, involving volunteer groups of 2-6 people.

These images are collected each month and uploaded to the BMWHI database. All images are then codified and analysed by our research team, then uploaded to the Atlas of Living Australia database using the BioCollect tool designed for citizen science projects.

Low Carbon Living Australia is a not for profit social enterprise with an aim to help individuals and organisations reduce their carbon footprints, at the core of which is a sophisticated carbon calculator.

Developed in partnership with a local Sydney-based social enterprise (Ecologic Apps), the carbon calculator provides a benchmark and breakdown of your carbon footprint and a set of prioritised recommendations for reducing your carbon emissions.

We are seeking web developers to help take this calculator to the next level. Some example projects include:
- enhancing the existing progressive web app (PWA)
- developing a new feature to help coordinate carbon reduction bulk buys
- enhancing an advanced map widget using React and LeafletJS
- developing an interactive visualisations of rooftop solar system performance using javascript / D3
- data processing of weather data to support some exciting new simulation features
- developing a Python algorithm for optimally positioning solar panels on building roofs

The calculator uses a range of modern web technologies including typescript, react, redux, material-ui, graphql and a python backend using FastAPI and Starlette. The project also leverages the latest Atlassian technologies including Bitbucket Pipelines for continuous integration and testing.
