The Boz Life Science Research and Teaching Institute is a nonprofit in San Diego, CA. Students in our research immersion program gain experience from hypothesis development, field work, designing and running experiments, collecting and analyzing data, to communicating their results. The Spring Symposium marks the students’ program graduation and an opportunity for them to present their research.

This Spring, students will present their research on ecological risk assessment of sediments in the Tijuana River Estuary (TRE), an important ecosystem and infamously polluted site in San Diego, CA. Using the California Purple Sea Urchin, students assessed the effects of chemical pollution on sensitive invertebrate embryos developing in TRE sediments collected at four sites during dry and wet weather events. Our students are thrilled to have the chance to present their work to you!

The seminar is estimated to last 1 hour and 15 minutes. Students' presentations will be followed by a Q&A session. The students are eager to answer questions, so please ask them! Beyond Q&A, you are welcome to share information on career resources and provide relevant career advice.

Email christine@bozinstitute.org your interest in attending.

On the third Tuesday of every month, our Zion Rock food pantry (10230 W. Fond du Lac Ave., Milwaukee) receives its delivery of food from Hunger Task Force - approximately 3-5 pallets of various nutritious items that will be distributed to underserved members of the community over the course of the month. At these deliveries, it is vital that we have a team of volunteers onsite to help us unload, sort, and stock the food into the pantry space quickly and efficiently to keep the loading zone clear and the food out of the elements.

Help us care for the wildlife and plant life of the park. We can take from12 to 100 volunteers to do seasonal tasks like planting wildflowers, felling and planting small trees, removing weeds, litter picking, and repairing paths.
Corporate volunteers contribute to the important nature conservation work we do in the park which directly benefits wildlife and the local community

There's lots of evidence that physical tasks and being somewhere green boosts morale and gives a sense of achievement! Our team volunteer days get you out of the office and into the outdoors for fun and meaningful activities.

We can also be flexible in our offer – we host shorter volunteering days if needed, give guided walks about foraging, and are happy to work with you to find something that suits your current needs. In winter and the festive season we can also offer activities like nestbox or wreath making, while enjoying a glass of mulled apple juice or wine.
