We are always seeking volunteers to help pick up trash off of the roadways leading into our community. Peculiar Street Clean Up Day is normally held on the 3rd Saturday of the month of April in conjunction with Earth Day. Volunteers sign in at 9 am and receive directions as to where to go to pick up trash out of ditches and roadsides and place their trash bags at the curb and other volunteers pick up those bags and return to the donated dumpster at the sign in location. The event ends at 1 pm, so a person is donated for only 4 hours or less if that is all the time they have.Available Shifts

Once a year HEART Village opens it's gardens to the community. We celebrate the provision we have enjoyed throughout the year and share our knowledge about gardening and sustainability. The presentations and workshops may include propagation, composting, container gardening, beekeeping, pollination, soil composition, homesteading, urban gardening, permaculture, fermentation and anything else which helps our neighbors be successful. We provide a Farm-to-Table lunch (as long as supplies last) and invite local vendors to sell their honey, soaps, cupcakes, coffee, and tea, hand-made crafts and more. The ticket is kept low so that we can provide a family-friendly day to our community and neighbors.

What drink packages and other garbages are discarded on the street? Who are the producers and who the polluters? These are the questions that we set out to answer. Only by knowing what is out there can we tackle the issue at source. The litter found during the cleanups will be registered through ourTrashHunters/Litterati app.
With the TrashHunters/Litterati app the participants can take a picture of the litter found and classify it in terms of article type, material and brand. The app recognises litter and suggests tags, which the user needs to confirm. The location and time will automatically be registered showing the litter hotspots. The data collected though the app will serve as citizen science, and can be used to create awareness, hold the industry responsible and stimulate alternative solutions.
When plastic waste ends up in the environment, it results in a misuse of valuable resources and creates a major environmental problem: “plastic soup.” That is a terrible shame. Trash Hunters refuse to accept this any longer. We will bring about a solution by creating visibility around what is on the street, and then we will pick up what we see. Trash Hunters protect our oceans and waterways.
Trash Hunters has started analyzing discarded rubbish, and is looking at drink packaging in particular. Since it started, over 70,000 items have been reported and plenty more rubbish has been cleaned up in the Netherlands.
Everybody can download the Litterati App, join the Trash Hunters - Plastic Soup Foundation club and start the clean up. You can also create your own club and affiliate to the Plastic Soup Foundation (the Trash Hunters initiator) therefore the data can be use in the fight against litter.

The goal of this volunteer day is to bring together many partners and families to help re-create and beautify our many gardens at Sunset Valley Elementary. Some of our garden boxes were not originally installed correctly, and our new gardening committee would like to rectify this issue so that the gardens can flourish more in the future. We need many hands to make the work more light! This is important to our community because we use our gardens for educational and learning opportunities during the school day, for after school club opportunities, and to help share vegetables with our families.Available Shifts
