The QBE AcceliCITY Resilience Challenge is one of the top startup accelerators of its kind in the world. We work with entrepreneurs from around the world who have developed some of the most promising solutions to create a more sustainable and resilient future for all. This volunteer opportunity seeks judges for a pivotal moment in the AcceliCITY program-- selecting the Top 50 Solutions. In May we started with 650 startups from 80 countries, now we need your help to provide invaluable feedback to these entrepreneurs and to score each to determine who moves on to the next round. You are welcome to sign up for multiple one-hour sessions. Each one-hour session will be a one-on-one meeting with one team. They will share their pitch with you and then you will have an opportunity to ask questions and dive deeper into their solution. After 45 minutes, the entrepreneur will exit and you will have 15 minutes to complete the Feedback Form (shared with the entrepreneur) and the Evaluation Form (not shared-- used for scoring purposes).

We are a nonprofit organization driven by the purpose of combating ocean pollution, with the main strategy of containing floating solid waste and recovering degraded mangrove areas.Rivers and estuaries with dense populations along their banks, especially on the peripheries, carry an enormous amount of plastic into the oceans. Ten rivers carry almost all of the plastic into the oceans. Researchers at the Helmholtz Center for Environmental Research in Leipzig, Germany, analyzed the concentration of plastic in 57 rivers around the world. Eight of them are in Asia, while two are in Africa. The biggest polluter is the Yangtze, located in China, which releases 1.5 million tons of plastic waste per year into the ocean (more than is released by the other nine rivers combined). Together, the 10 rivers are responsible for dumping up to 2.75 million tons of plastic into the world's oceans each year.
Our voluntary actions are a research tool, environmental awareness and alert to the serious situation of marine pollution by plastic and mangrove deforestation in the Santos - São Vicente estuarine system. More than 80% of the plastic collected on the beaches in the region comes from disposal in mangrove areas occupied by stilt slums.
Since 2008 we have organized 160+ voluntary cleanup actions involving 4,000+ volunteers that removed 60+ tons of marine litter.
We believe that the recovery of rivers and estuaries is the main measure to drastically reduce the amount of plastic in the oceans. This is what we do, with your support, in the Santos - São Vicente estuarine system.
