This free celebration, attracting at least 250 visitors, features different aspects of wildlife each year. Previous themes include crepuscular and nocturnal forest creatures, and currently threatened species or those which have overcome endangered status. Families are first are greeted by volunteer musicians in our Outdoor Classroom, where local libraries facilitate seasonal crafts and activities. The large group is then divided into smaller ones for visiting the “animals,” who are stationed along our many trails. Volunteers lead groups to each station, where an “animal” provides an interactive dialogue about forest life. (“Animals” are costumed volunteers wearing detailed, hand-crafted disguises, complete with faux fur, feathers, and props for an accurate representation of each critter.) After twelve minutes, an air-horn blasts signals for the group to rotate. After every group has cycled through each station, everyone returns to the Outdoor Classroom for donuts and cider. In contrast to other autumn activities, “Animals of Halloween” is not spooky; the family-friendly program is designed to educate and entertain visitors of all ages.Available Shifts

Come out for a good scary time! This is the time to dress up and scare your friends and strangers alike. We will be meeting at the Pool for registration at 1:00 pm. The cost is $15.00 per person and 2 canned goods, and the money raised goes to help fund lifeguard training for Panther Creek Pool's lifeguards while the food goes to Central Services. Our pool is the only public pool in Hamblen County and we have to have certified guards, this money helps us to train our guards as well as buy items that we need that the state cannot purchase for us. This will be a 2 mile walk, not a run. Zombies are not fast!Available Shifts

Join Depave and partners as we rip up 5,000 square feet of excess pavement to make way for a rain garden, nature play space, monkey bars, mural, and an outdoor seating area at the Inukai Boys & Girls Club in Hillsboro. This is an all-ages, all-abilities volunteer work party. It will be followed up with additional volunteer parties. Registration is requested via https://depave.org/event/inukai-bgclub/.Currently, the Club's courtyard is a former parking lot. Our transformation of the space will enhance the everyday experiences of hundreds of youth and neighbors who will be able to use the space for recreation and to connect with nature. The project will also contribute to clean water by reducing stormwater runoff and make a more flood-resilient space.
The Club, located near downtown Hillsboro, offers a host of after school and summer programs for youth ages 6-18. The Club is a nonprofit youth development and community service agency serving an average of 200 youth per day, with low-income and people of color making up around 80% of the population served.
