This is a hands-on, practical opportunity to help maintain and improve an adventure playground near Old Street. Volunteers will be working outdoors most of the day and could be helping with anything from general garden maintenance, digging and planting, and building structures, to spreading bark, cutting back greenery, and painting. Exact tasks will be determined and communicated to the team closer to the time.About Islington Play Assocation and Toffee Park Adventure Playground:
Islington Play Association (IPA) is a registered charity and aims to create, improve and promote places and opportunities for the children of Islington to play.
IPA believe play is an essential part of the health, education, development and happiness of children. Their main focus is how, through play, children's overall welfare and life chances can be significantly enhanced with special emphasis on children in greatest need.
All of IPA's adventure playgrounds are located in areas of high deprivation and serve some of the most financially disadvantaged children in the UK. In fact, a staggering 47% of children in Islington are living in poverty, much higher than the London average of 38% (London’s Poverty Profile). IPA provides all children opportunities to play across their 5 Adventure playgrounds, all of which are free to attend.
Toffee Park Adventure Playground is nestled in the heart of the city, close to Old Street roundabout, but it's a haven for nature, with many plants, trees, and animals calling it home. Staff here use natural objects for play activities and children love expressing creativity with arts and crafts.
