Office Volunteer Night

Join us for our office volunteer days! Our office volunteers are crucial in helping maintain our donor communications. Volunteers help fold letters and stuff envelopes to mail to our donors. Volunteers also help us reach our supporters through phone calling, both to remind donors that their membership will be or has expired, and to give thanks to all those who have renewed.

Volunteer days are a great and easy way to get involved with the BTA, meet fellow volunteers and learn more about our programs, work and other places you can plug in.

Volunteer days are sponsored by Hotlips Pizza who provides lunch for our volunteers, and we receive donations from Stumptown to keep you caffinated the whole shift through.

Join us and help make an impact for better bicycling in Oregon.
BTA Office, 618 NW Glisan #401
Portland, OR 97209

You can access our buildings bike parking through the 6th Street entrance. There is a call box next to a large red garage door on 6th Street. Use this door to enter, and the bike parking is in the loading dock at the end of the hallway to the left. Be sure to lock your bike as other tenants use this garage.

Peninsula Food Runners’ mission is to alleviate hunger and minimize food waste in the San Mateo and Santa Clara counties. Every day, our volunteers pick up and deliver a wide variety of wonderfully prepared and non-prepared surplus food to community organizations that feed their clients in need.

In 2023, Peninsula Food Runners delivered 2.92 million meals to feed food insecure communities and diverted over 3.5 million pounds of good edible food from the landfill.

Peninsula Food Runners addresses 3 top issues that we are facing today.
1. Hunger and food insecurities contribute to family instability, psychological and physical
trauma. ***Distribution is #1 reason to why donated food can't get to those in need.

2. Food Waste is California's #1 waste. In US, approximately 40% of good edible food is wasted. This equates to $165 billion being dumped in landfills. Imagine recovering 21% of this wasted food, we will be able to feed 8.8 million Californians who are presently experiencing food insecurity.

3. Environmental Sustainability
Food waste is the #1 contributor of Methane. It is also 3x deadlier than CO2 which contributes to climate changes that we are experiencing today. This is a low hanging food that we can tackle but we need you to partner with us.

Here is how you can help make an impact. Volunteer and/or donate financially to Peninsula Food Runners mission.

1. Volunteer with Peninsula Food Runners to divert good food to those in need and address all 3 issues. Many food runs can be accomplished in less than an hour. Sign up to volunteer at www.peninsulafoodrunners.org

2. Donate financially to Peninsula Food Runners to ensure we can continue our work to educate more donors, recover more food, and relay all these good edible food to those in need.

Last but not least, start a campaign at your workplace to ensure your kitchens are donating the company's surplus at the end of the day to community organizations. Refer them to Peninsula Food Runners or email us at support@peninsulafoodrunners.org as to whom we should contact at your kitchen.

Thank you so much for your consideration.

gratefully yours,

Maria Yap

We are creating environmental education for classrooms, utilizing film and animation to educate kids on the impact that their lives have upon our environment. We will be combining the films with Project Based Learning opportunities that supplement the educational material found in the films. Project Based Learning ( PBL ) is a teaching method in which students gain knowledge and skills by working for an extended period of time to investigate and respond to an authentic, engaging and complex question, problem, or challenge.

We are looking for volunteers to help research successful PBL examples. The goal is to create a data base of success stories, models, or even failures. We will use this material to benchmark successful programs, gauge the impact of certain strategies, and integrate PBL in the manner that most effectively supplements our films.

For the past three years, RISE Now has brought people together to volunteer on the planning and building of imaginative playgrounds made of post consumer tires. To date, we have built 15 playgrounds, involving hundreds of volunteers from five different countries, repurposing over 2000 tires and impacting the lives of thousands of children and their communities.
In 2016 we are gearing up for our most ambitious year to date with 8 playgrounds projects lined up in rural Mayan communities in Chiapas, Mexico. With your help we will facilitate and support communities, schools and orphanages in all aspects of playground planning and construction, as well as complete a comprehensive safety evaluation and train local residents and staff in proper playground care and maintenance.
