Company Description

Akilokony community based organization is a non-profit, in the fundraising phase of supporting women empowerment project in Turkana, kenya.

Our goals include assisting the Vulnerable women to improve their livelihoods through Training them on sewing and bead making .Our team will specialize in Training and mentoring women.

Job Summary

Raise funds for our cause and regularly meet or surpass fundraising targets.
Research potential donors to gain insight into needs, beliefs and donation habits to understand how to position our organization to them.
Assist in brainstorming and creating new methods to raise funds for our organization
Leverage technology and social media where possible to improve fundraising activities
Assist in planning and coordinating events meant to raise funds and coordinate activities of volunteers and interns related to event planning and execution
Create marketing materials, like flyers and brochures, to be used for the promotion of events and other fundraising pushes
Analyze the performance of events and other fundraising activities for effectiveness and to identify areas where money can be saved
Maintain complete and orderly records of donors and manage regular donor communications
Build upon existing donor relationships and form new donor relationships on a regular basis
Collaborate with other organizations and groups within the community to build partnerships and enhance fundraising activities
Building Relationships and Networks - connecting across the organization to develop a deep understanding of different needs to help define and answer critical business questions.

Team Initiatives - support various internal team efforts including technology adoption, learning and development, and social events.

Required Qualifications and Skills

Minimum two years of fundraising experience.

Board members are selected based upon their willingness and ability to help further the mission of Severson Dells Nature Center.
Our mission is to link people to nature through education and research, in the northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin area. We promote awareness of the natural world, fostering respect, enjoyment and preservation now and in the future.
SDNC board members are known for their community involvement, creativity, and entrepreneurial thinking. They work well in teams, and can access a network of community resources in pursuance of the Center’s goals.
Position Title: Member of the Board of Directors
Length of Term: Three years (two term limit)*
Reports To: Entire Board of Directors

The board of directors is legally and ethically responsible for all activities of the organization. To that end it:
1. Determines how the organization will carry out its mission through long and short-range planning
2. Adopts an annual budget and provides fiscal oversight
3. Recruits, orients, and develops board members
4. Evaluates the performance of the executive director
5. Evaluates its performance and overall performance of the organization in achieving the mission
6. Establishes policies for the effective management of the board

Responsibilities:
• Understand and promote the organization’s mission
• Be familiar with the organization’s programs, policies, and operations
• Attend board meetings and appropriate committee meetings
• Actively serve on at least one committee and offer to take on special assignments
• Review agenda and supporting documents prior to meetings
• within 90 days of appointment, members are required to observe one SDNC program event and one fundraising activity
• Make an annual contribution to the organization commensurate with ability
• Participate in fund raising activities and special events
• Strictly adhere to conflict of interest policies
• Strictly adhere to confidentiality policies

Time Demands (approximate):
• Attend and actively participate in at least 75% of board meetings (12 monthly board meetings, approximately 2 hours in length, on the 3rd Thursday of the month at 3:30pm, unless otherwise noted)
• Attend and actively participate in committee meetings and related work (1-3 hours per month as determined by the committee)
• Attend special events such as fundraisers and ground breaking ceremonies (2 fundraisers per year recommended)
• Attend new board member orientation (approx. 1-2 hours)
• Meet with potential donors/funders to make a case for funding the organization, answer questions, etc. (approx. 4-8 hours annually)

Financial and Resource Development Expectations:
• Make an annual gift “commensurate or significant according to your circumstance” to the organization (in order to achieve 100% board giving)
• Host a table at the annual fundraising breakfast
• Recruit sponsors, as needed, for special events
• Identify and cultivate potential donors

*Board Members may be brought on for a shorter length of time to finish out the term of a board member who has left before the end of their term.

Opportunity Details

Help remove invasive plants, collect native seed, and plant new seedlings with the Severson Dells Conservation Crew. Restoration volunteers meet the second Saturday and fourth Monday of each month from 9:00 to noon. You can participate in the restoration and management of our natural areas! Working alongside fellow volunteers in the beauty of the outdoors is both gratifying and invigorating. No experience necessary; training and tools are supplied. Bring a water bottle and stay hydrated. Dress in layers and expect to get dirty! Painting projects around the ranch. Arena walls, Well houses, fence railing all take a beating in the Oklahoma sun and weather. We have several painting projects that need to be completed. Some need prep work and some are ready to begin. You pick the project based on the time you have available and the skills you have.

Apply pellets to get rid of gophers to protect our horses from holes. Gopher mounds affect mowing, appearance, and pose a safety threat to our horses. We need a team to help eradicate them from the property.
