Join us on a Virtual Field Trip to the Peruvian Amazon on Earth Day!

In place of traditional Earth Day activities this year, your team can virtually participate in a reforestation project in the Amazon Rainforest. You will learn how pollutants are damaging the environment and human health and the proven solutions and will also be provided concrete opportunities to support and promote this life-saving work.

You will then have an opportunity for a live Q&A with our team members.

Opportunity Details

Volunteers will be working as a team to enhance the biodiversity of a small open space. It's a great opportunity to meet others with similar interests and work towards achieving our plan for the site.

Tasks include keeping the bramble at bay, preparing areas for planting trees, shrubs, bulbs and wildflower seeds, watering, cutting and maintaining trails in line with a plan agreed with Barnet Council and, of course, litter picking.

The existing trees and the grassed area are maintained by Barnet Council, who remove rubbish after work parties.

No specific skills are required but a willingness to 'pitch-in'. Our main need now is for people who want to work with their hands to clear and plant the site.

Take an educational tour of Rescue MI Nature NOW's different sites while learning just what it takes to maintain the biodiversity present. This great for children and adults as it is a hands on experience ranging from planting in the dirt, making compost, sorting seeds, pruning and cleaning the site. Get a snapshot of what is means to be S.A.F.E. here at RMNN as we will give you some basic skills in Sustainability, Agriculture, Finance, and Entrepreneurship.

The Great Global Cleanup is the world’s largest coordinated volunteer event, providing opportunities for individuals and organizations to make positive, tangible impacts on our environment. The goal is to get outside and remove the millions of pieces of trash polluting our neighborhood green spaces, communities, and waterways.

Recognizing ongoing restrictions in many parts of the world, The Great Global Cleanup has also established updated safety guidelines to keep volunteers safe and healthy. There is a wonderful program popping up in cities all around the U.S. where mutual aid groups are getting volunteers to donate space and refrigerators in areas to provide access to free meals and ingredients that houseless or food insecure people might not otherwise be able to get. NW Veg wants to find an army of volunteers to help us stock these fridges with meals and ingredients that are dairy/meat/egg free for folks who cannot or choose not to eat foods with those in it. You can stock it with something as simple as vegan cheeses/milks/babyfood/butter/nut butters/bread, etc or depending on the fridge program you're dropping off to you can make a meal and put it in a to-go container for folks to grab.

-Recipes for fast and simple vegan dishes that the community has requested

Opportunity Details

Come out and experience the first official day of spring by helping maintain the SCC trails system. We will be removing winter debris like sticks and branches from all trails at McFarland Park. We will also clean out water bars as needed. So come shake off that winter slumber and come enjoy one of our great parks and learn about our trails system.

Volunteers need to come prepared for the weather with long pants, heavy duty walking/hiking shoes. Bring a full water bottle. Sunscreen, insect repellent and eye protection are likely to be helpful.

Work gloves will be provided if you need them. Masks will be worn when social distancing requirements cannot be met.

Opportunity Details

The Plant Exchange encourages the community to share resources, recycle gardening materials, eliminate unnecessary landfill waste, and promote sustainable gardening practices. We run Adopt-a-Plant Fundraiser Sales each month to re-home plants and to raise operating capital. Neighbors new and old, renters and new homeowners are encouraged to find some new plants to adopt and resupply their gardening tools.
Volunteers will set up, take down, resupply tables, help shoppers, and work behind the scenes to refresh plants. No previous knowledge or experience necessary.
