Lowry will be hosting a Community Volunteer Day to renew our outdoor garden spaces. We are hoping to gather over 40 people together to pull weeds, lay mulch and refresh pathways. Staff from Singing Hills Landscape will be volunteering their time and bringing tools to support our efforts. The refreshed gardens will provide a variety of outdoor spaces for students to take their learning outside. Many hands make light work and we hope that you will consider joining us as we work together to provide unique learning spaces for our students.

Recognizing the numerous benefits of outdoor learning and activity, Lowry has begun a school-wide effort to take learning outside and to get students actively involved in maintaining the garden spaces. Every classroom will be involved in planting, maintaining and harvesting the Victory (Vegetable) Garden. Additionally, three Outdoor Classroom spaces (the renewed Serenity Garden, an enhanced Orchard and a new Outdoor Classroom space adjacent to the Victory Garden) will provide spaces for teachers to take their curriculum outside providing real life applications and hands-on learning to state standards. Giving students a clean slate to start with will help get this new program off to a great start.

Lowry has four unique garden spaces that were designed and built in 2010-2012. As with many gardens, the Lowry Gardens have suffered over the last couple of years from a lack of regular maintenance. Weeds have overcome many of the gardens, trees and shrubs are in desperate need of pruning, mulch has decomposed away and irrigation no longer works as designed. While the Victory (Vegetable) Garden continues to produce food for the cafeteria and Farmer’s Market, its in-ground beds are overrun with weeds and the other gardens have slipped away from their former glory.

Opportunity Details

Pequest Open House is held once a year, it gives the community an opportunity to see the different activities the NJ Fish and Game Commission do for the State. Boy Scout Troop 158 have a food concession at the open house. We will be selling burger, soda, and snacks to the community. We use the money earned to pay for camping trips.

Opportunity Details

We are proud to present a full day event featuring nationally-known author and speaker Dr. Doug Tallamy on September 25, 2019 at Boerner Botanical Gardens. Author of Bringing Nature Home and The Living Landscape, Dr. Tallamy’s focus on the inter-relationships between plants and the animals and insects that need them provides a guide for landscaping decisions.

Keep San Antonio Beautiful is seeking volunteers to assist with recycling at the Fiesta Flambeau Parade! It's a fun way to experience the parade and fiesta!

Volunteers will help distribute bags for recycling and encourage parade watchers to recycle. The community loves and cheers us for our efforts!

Free Parking and Shuttle Service is provided to and from the event along with a Keep San Antonio Beautiful Volunteer Shirt and a Fiesta medal!

Opportunity Details

We are looking to have a corporate day of giving and remove a Class I invasive species known as "Cats Claw". This project involves digging in the sand to find what looks like little onion balls.

This is an awesome project that is rewarding and has a HUGE impact. As soon as we can eradicate this plant, we will be able to start planting native long leaf pine trees and restoring the habitat.

We are looking for volunteers to help us spruce up the outside area of our EMS Station by planting Spring/Summer Flowers! We are also looking for donated plants too!

Each year, San Diego River Park Foundation volunteers remove more than 200,000 pounds of trash from our River. Without our amazing volunteers, this trash would be left to pollute native animal habitats, create unsightly piles in our parks and public spaces, leach contaminants into the water, and could be washed out in to our ocean and beaches!

YOU can help with this critical work! The Clean & Green Team is a group of enthusiastic volunteers that focus on cleaning up storm water debris and litter. Volunteers use pickers and gloves to pack this trash into garbage bags, then haul it to a dumpster.

This event is open to volunteers of all ages, but volunteers under the age of 16 must come with an adult. Closed-toed shoes are required. Sun protection, water and a snack are highly recommended. All supplies are provided. Community service hours can be verified. Groups of up to 30 people are welcome if space allows.
