Opportunity Details

This family-friendly event takes regional residents on a journey along one of the area’s top trail networks. During this event, participants will enjoy cycling from Montoursville to South Williamsport along the 10.5-mile network of trails along the Susquehanna River Valley. Along the way, they will learn about trail amenities, parks, future trail connections, neighboring communities, and the health benefits of cycling. A youth bike rodeo and 1-mile fun ride will also take place to provide younger cyclists with the opportunity to fine tune their skills.

This is much more than a cycling event; it is a hands-on experience and an introduction to the trail network, communities, and organizations within our area. This year we are expecting 100 participants and 20 volunteers to take part.

חוות קיימא היא חווה לגידול ירק בשיטה טבעית. החווה מספקת תעסוקה לבני נוער אשר נשרו מבתי ספר ומנותקים ממערכת החינוך. דרך העבודה החקלאית המשותפת לצעירים ומבוגרים, בני הנוער זוכים לקבל מסגרת תומכת, לימוד בלתי אמצעי בטבע, תחושת אחריות אישית וחברתית ויחס אישי בגובה העיניים. באמצעות העבודה המשותפת בשדה בני הנוער רוכשים מימנויות חשובות כגון עמידה בלוח זמנים, קבלת החלטות, קבלת אחריות ועבודת צוות.
המתנדבים מתנדבים לצוות ולמשימות החקלאיות כגון שתילה, עישוב, קטיף, הכנת שטחים חדשים ועוד. בדרך כלל המתנדבים יוצרים קשרים משמעותיים עם בני הנוער דרך השיחות הקטנות בזמן העבודה.

Please help Audubon New York and Group for the East End clean up Breakwater Beach in Mattituck, NY (on the North Fork of Long Island) on Sunday, August 25th at 10 AM. This beach provides habitat for breeding and migratory shorebirds, so it's important that we keep it clean. Gloves, trash bags, and light refreshments will be provided and the first 50 volunteers will receive a free t-shirt. Please bring your own reusable water bottle and wear sun protection. This is Stokes Nature Center's primary fundraiser for the year that makes our nature education and stewardship efforts possible. Without this event, we cannot do what we do. Therefore, it needs to be a dynamic, engaging and fun opportunity for the community. The volunteers will be helping to set up throughout the day so that the event can proceed in the evening.
